Mildred Harris(1901-1944)made her first screen appearances at age 9 then went on to play a variety of juvenile roles.She graduated to leading lady assignments,working under the direction of Cecil B. DeMille and D.W. Griffith.In 1917,she married Charlie Chaplin(She was 17 years old he was 29).She was the mother of Charles Chaplin's first child.The baby,who was nicknamed "The Little Mouse,"was born with severe disabilities and lived only 3 days.The union only lasted until 1920.She went directly into an affair with the Prince of Wales (later King Edward VIII#.Though she continued to enjoy moderate success in the 1920s,she was washed up by the early 1930s.Harris tried for a comeback in vaudeville and burlesque.Harris continued to work in the 1940s through the kindness of her former director Cecil B.
