Journaling: I wore cute shoes for my testing day at Memorial Sloan Kettering-- they perked me up every time I looked down. It was a long morning of looking for stuff that nobody wants to find, and though early detection ran like a loop in my head, I was seriously afraid. Since my body went rogue last year, it was a struggle to keep my head positive, but Mary Piphers new book kept me good company as I slogged my way through the labs and examining rooms. At the end, in my last meeting, with the high-risk doctor, when I got the all clear for a year, I truly was in shock. It took me a few days to internalize that my body was functioning normally. I celebrated my gratitude by lighting candles to life, embarking on a gardening marathon (including planting raucous striped petunias), and, most important, taking the time to contemplate my body and realizing I had to learn to accept that there are going to be ups and downs in this time of life. It was horrible last year to feel that my body had betrayed me, had become other, and I felt fractured all the time. I feel integrated now, at ease, and I want to learn to stay that way, no matter what comes. --May 20, 2019 and the aftermath

Process: I've been craving immediate gratification with my layouts during these busy days, so FotoInspired is a perfect product for documenting everything. I clipped in my photos and added the wordART and embellishments from the Artplay Palette and then chose a background. I wanted something dramatic, so wound up stacking Artsy Papers #3 over #2 over #1. I added the drama with blending modes: #2 on color burn and #3 on Difference, then spread some turquoise around with brushes from the brush set.
