Hayward and Fremont are not the most upscale cities in the Bay Area for sure. But both have thriving art communities with two member galleries each. My favorite is the Olive Hyde Gallery right across the street from Mission San Jose in Fremont. Here are some shots from their art doll exhibit a few months ago. Beautiful works that are breathtaking in their intricate workmanship (workwomanship?) and creativity. If there are ever art dolls being exhibited near you, go see them. They are amazing!
