AnnaLift_2.24.12/3.1.12_A Simple Man

Journaling reads: I love this photo of my dad. I love his big smile and dark Italian eyes. I always thought him quite a handsome man with his angled features, always tan, and muscular from working outside. His parents had instilled in him a great love of family, and working hard. He was just that your typical strong, silent type that felt his role was to provide for his family and Oh how he worked hard at that. He was taught to make due with what he had, and to be very thrifty with the money he earned, frequenting the junk shops in the Italian section of New Haven for things he could fix or buy at a discounted price.

He had suffered hardship in his life, having lived through the depression, he also survived polio as a child, left with a pronounced limp. He endured the loss of a younger brother. I never heard him complain. What I saw was a love of family, of simple times with friends, his love of animals, and a great love of life.

Because he died before I could get to really know him, I cherish each photo of him that helps keep him close to my heart.
