Journaling:
We stayed until the morning sun lit every sunflower on the mountain. Remember the women from Long Island we met at Treasure Falls: they were shocked to see so many of the trees killed by pine beetles, and I realized that seeing those dead trees no longer broke my heart.

So will the pine forests regenerate I wonder. Must have been a joy to see the sun rise over the mountains. Love the smudging of colour behind the photos.

In many areas where wildfire suppression is essential, the trees are harvested and burned in slash piles. New seedlings appear within 5 years and the stands of trees will be regenerated in 80-105 years.

Always a work of art as well as an informative page. Love that bit of purple -y, smoke-y blending in the upper right as well as the clever stitching holding the piece of straw.
