Journaling: By any conventional standards, my paternal grandmother, __________, would not be considered beautiful. But my handsome grandfather must have been wise enough to recognize her inner beauty, for that she had. She was my favorite person in the world. She died when I was 12 years old, and it broke my heart. One of my fondest memories is of her tending her flowers. I did not inherit her green thumb. But I did inherit her love and skill for sewing.
