I tried to focus on creating a linear layout, and using a variety of brushes/transfers/overlays. I must admit I'm wondering if it looks too 'messy' (i.e. I've thrown too much at the page?).....

I wonder about the messy factor all the time in my layouts as I never know when to stop. I don't think it is too much as you created a great base for your photo. Love your color choice for this as well.
