Journaling:
Descending from Nob Hill on Washington, youre pretty much forced through Chinatown, especially since part of Washington is closed to through traffic (it seems like it has been closed for a long time) and you have to go through one or other of the side alleys to get across town. But thats OK, I love strolling through Chinatown. There is nothing more colorful, not just the buildings and the artwork on the walls, but the people, the food, the shops, and not just the ones selling tourist junk, but the ones full of loose tea and odd fungi, the vegetables Ive never seen before and could not identify. Speaking of the shops, I passed a general goods store with a clearance table of glassware out front and picked up a couple of glass leaves, perfect for my glass flowers project. It was hard to only buy two, but I can always go back. Then there are the smells, the throngs of people, both local and tourist. Its crowded, its noisy, its smelly, but its just so real. I used to feel self conscious about taking pictures here, but I feel true in my purpose, which is to try to capture the intense color of a favorite neighborhood.
