Here's my entry for the April 2014 Lyric challenge, to scrap about a song from your childhood. I had such fun creating this page, singing along to the song and was thrilled when I came across the most perfect kit by our very own Paula Kesselring & Studio 68 called Americana http://www.oscraps.com/shop/product.php?productid=43896&page=1
Ooops, don't want to give you eye strain, so here's what I said:
I never think of my mother and pop music in the same breath she worked in the classical music industry and only listened to Radio 4, so I assumed she wasnt interested in pop. But I do remember her teaching us songs that we sang in the car. And these were not the usual kids songs, the sort she taught us in school or Sunday School. I remember singing Barbara Allen and Molly Malone and other such ballads. But of all the songs wed holler out at the tops of our voices, my favourite was American Pie. Of course, at the time I had no idea of its source, was not aware of its origin and just learned the lyrics off by heart from my mother. It was only later, years later that I found out more about this wonderful tune by Don McLean and its bonkers lyrics that meant nothing to me then.
It still holds a special place in my heart when I hear it, taking me back in time to sitting in traffic jams on the Kings Road, which seem to have been such a feature of my early life.
