I have lots of 'documentary pages' in my photobooks but alongside that are lots of pages that are mostly ‘creative play’.
Often when I have having fun with old family photos, I like to mixed them up with very messy, collage-style and mixed media assets.
Somehow the soft focus and ‘vibe’ of retro photos makes for a perfect match with the textures and messiness of mixed media collections.
I particularly like clipping them to distressed-edged clipping masks then layering paints and other elements over the top so they essentially merge with everything on the page.
I did that with these pages that combine old family photos with my new "Unique' collection
(It's part of ColorPlay so it's half price right now BTW)
Here's me in the garden in England with my mum and grandparents. This one will be used in the calendar I make for my mum for Christmas every year.

And I loved making this one of my husband with his brothers and cousins on the family farm:

Do you like to mix older photos and 'messy' art journaling supplies?
PS I also enjoyed using the collection with old but not-quite-as-old photos and not blended. Two favourite memories with the Husband
