What do you think ... ? Some thoughts on journalings

Imagine the following:

You see an attractive layout in the gallery with a story about the photos that you would be very interested in. Unfortunately, the text is not in your native language and you don't understand everything exactly - only roughly. But to understand the story exactly, you would have to laboriously type the German, French or other language text into Google Translate . But who really makes the effort? And that is often such a shame! You then give a like, but would like to say a few words to the creator. I am all the more pleased when some members repeat their text again in the description and I can easily copy and translate it if necessary. Even with the best Oxford English, slang or phrases - let alone abbreviations - are often incomprehensible . That may just be my feeling. And you may think that it is not so important that everyone understands everything. Most of the ladies who indulge in their hobby here are surely perfect in their English.
I'm so glad that @faerywings started a thread with your abbreviations to support us.

I don't want everyone to repeat their journaling in the description!! I just wanted to draw attention to it and emphasize again how useful it is!

Thank you for bringing this up! I usually only put my journaling in the description if I think it's too small to read by looking at the layout. It honestly never occurred to me that a non-English speaker might want to be able to translate it regardless of size. And it's strange, because sometimes there will be a layout with journaling in German or Dutch or some other language, and if there's no translation, I wonder what it says.

Thank you for your understanding, Tracy. I often try to establish a relationship with the person who created a layout. Especially when it's about more serious topics. Sometimes comfort is so good, or the fact that many other people feel the same way. That's how I felt about your story about your father. Just looking at the pictures, I assumed you had an accident because the focus was on the vehicles. Luckily my English isn't that bad, so I was able to understand the text, even if it's sometimes difficult to read the small lines.

Sometimes comfort is so good, or the fact that many other people feel the same way. That's how I felt about your story about your father. Just looking at the pictures, I assumed you had an accident because the focus was on the vehicles. Luckily my English isn't that bad, so I was able to understand the text, even if it's sometimes difficult to read the small lines.

I will try even harder as I dont want you missing the layouts. My dad died (2011), but not in an accident, he was just a car nut. We bonded over fast cars and I inherited his plow truck so it is featured in a lot of layouts.

I am a bit on the fence about journaling these days. I LOVE journaling, every page I post contains at least some, because to me text is also a design element... A few of my earlier albums contain very little text and we don't remember anymore where we were or what we were doing.. which is a pity. These days I keep a diary during our travels and a loose info sheet for each month of the year, so I have something to jog my memory when scrapping the events later.

On the other hand, with all the recent talk of AI scraping the internet and more and more people blurring their friends' faces, I am beginning to regret some of my earlier pages that contain real stories with names and dates and places. Looking at the layouts in the gallery, scrapbooking is slowly morphing into an artform... but I imagine people scrap personal pages too. I know I do.

I also suspect not many people actually read the journaling - which is a pity, because we are all so busy and life is so hectic and fewer and fewer people have got the time to connect to others. Strange world we live in.. and yes, I do realize I sound like an old crone... I am old school, I guess...

No, you don't sound like an old bag at all There are events that you want to share. Also because there is always someone here who is interested and who has an opinion on what you have to say. In that respect, it is also about making it a little easier for people who do not speak a different language to access by repeating the journaling in the description. That is what I am concerned about. It does not always have to be very intimate. I do not put people from my circle of friends, whether at parties or on other occasions, on my pages! Obtaining consent is usually too much effort for me. And I specifically ask family. Unfortunately, I have also switched to having my own images created by AI or I look for suitable ones on Pixabay if I don't have any photos of my own.

I have to have tons of documentation and, sometimes, I even have to take photos! Santa compiles all this information into his Santa Datatron 5000 and it helps categorize people into the naughty or nice lists. It is a real time saver since we use technology now rather than just tally marks!

That's really interesting, Buddy! I never thought about how much administrative work you have to do! And I'm sure you have to make all the children happy who don't speak a language like that and translate the messages into their language. It's really a hard job!
