Working with a double layout (with templates)

When I create a double layout, I usually just do one side then the other, not both simultaneously as it slows down my computer because of the large .psd size. How do you get around this?

I always do both on one large document. Even when I had an older laptop with only 4 GB of RAM the speed was acceptable (but I am not spoilt).
I don't like doing them separately, but rather put up with a decrease in speed.

I do both on one document too. I have 6GB of RAM and haven't noticed an appreciable slow down.

Good question, Heather! I don't have an answer but am looking forward to seeing who does. :) I think I'd do more double LOs if there was a solution.

Hmmm I have 16G of ram but my double psd file gets huge, maybe I will have to flatten some layers before I place them in a double document

That seems a bit odd. I only have 8GB now and am ok. Could it be that you assigned not enough RAM for PS to use?

Yikes, I wouldn't flatten, Heather, I don't think that is the answer! I do double and don't have a problem with my pc. I wish I could help, but don't have an answer.
