I guess I'm not to old to learn something new!! Who knew one could grow vegetables in a bag and have them come out the flap!!! You can grow everything in these bags!!!! LOLOLOL
That is awesome! We tried to grow potatoes in a barrel once but they didn't do so well. We got a few potatoes but it was a lot of work for very little yield. This is pretty darn cool.
Chris, I just saw a video someone posted on FB about growing potatoes in a barrel. They made it look so easy, with dozens of spuds from every pot! The reality isn't always so, I guess!
Would this really work? We used to have a large vegetable garden, we also grew potatoes. I do think they need more space to grow then they have in a bag.
But who knows!
Could be fun to try!!
I don't know if this is real or not, but it sounds a bit to good to be true..!!! That would be so cool though if potatoes just rolled out that flap!! lolol I am interested though in growing a few veggies, I have had to downsize since I lost my husband..I have a sweet small sunny deck I don't need much room or much veggies so these looked so intriguing I am going to buy one anyway and give it a try..I will post how it goes...or grows!! HA! thank you for the comments ladies!! EDIT after trying to buy one of these, turns out they can't ship it to my address...Oh well..I ended up buying smaller bags for flowers..going to try them with flowers
I have seen these in different catalogues we get here, and to me it would look pretty simple to make one your self. We have those sorts of green bags to carry garden waste around (ie. put cuttings in them and carry them to the compost heap etc.) and I think it would be quite easy to slip a pot inside it and then cut out a square hole, (both pot and bag). Take the plastic one right out and then on the bag, leave a flap which could then be stuck down with Velcro so you could open it when you needed to get the potatoes out. I keep thinking I would like to make one but have never got around to it. At the moment we live right in town and so we are close to a veggie store so I don't need one yet, but if we end up buying a house that is not close to a little township then I will certainly give this a go.
As my gardening brain start to mull-- it would be pretty cool to have this option for houseplants too- be able to check the soil moisture level as well as the root system without having to mess around too much...
Someone patent that!
I have a ton of the the little organic red potatoes that are starting to grow "eyes." I should make a home-made bag and try it out. Wanna take bets if I get it done or not? haha Good intentions...so little time. Neat concept though.
