For me it was math too. I hated it. It was so boring. I always maintained my grades in the upper class curve but it was torture for me. I preferred language, science, arts and home ec.
Same here - I squeaked by in the maths, but my other grades balanced it out.

I loved math...had a splendid teacher in high school. She really pushed us girls at a time when the world didn't necessarily think that girls belonged in math. I've said many times that I owe Mrs. Yearous. I've tried finding her but she moved away and got a divorce...changed her name...and I couldn't find her. :(

But gym...I HATED it! Just hated it!

That is interesting to read about dyscalculia. I don't have it unless there are mild forms of it. I can tell what numbers are bigger than others. But for the most part, numbers have no meaning to me. I can't picture amounts and numbers in my head and things like balancing a checkbook - it's like reading another language.
There are parts of Math that I did like-- I really enjoyed Geometry Proofs. There was something about the process of it that was interesting, that you can use different paths to get to the same answer. I also like Stats- I had to take that in college as part of Experimental Psychology requirements.

I honestly think I must have this too, Chris. Numbers just "float" around in my head. I cannot do any math "in my head". It's so weird because Stats IS math, but it makes sense. My youngest DD has the same issue as me and she aced Stats. It's just a different angle at looking at things. Geometry is different too - I never got that far, but when I helped my kids, it made more sense. I think it's the way our brains work. We're creatives.

Worst part for me when it comes to the dyscalculia is time. The clock is so weird! In metric system, everything is based on 10. 1 litre = 10 dl = 1 cubic dm = 1000 g water. It sort of makes sense.

But time! 1 hr is 60 minutes. 1 minute is 60 sec. 1 day is 24 hours. 1 week is 7 days. A month is 28, 29, 30 or 31 days. A year is 12 months. A year is 365 or 366 days. 52 weeks.

I mean! No wonder I never know what time it is. :D

math and history
History was hard, but I wish I'd studied harder. My husband is a history buff and knows SO much - I've learned a lot from him over the years. He loves geography too. He just bought me an up-to-date world glove so I could learn more.

We had such an old teacher that every lesson was terrible. Over the years I read books and learned a lot myself. I didn't like going to school... :(

Can I relate to old teachers! In high school, half of our teachers were so old that my parents had them - that's the truth. My English teacher wasn't only old, she didn't give a hoot what we did so we just goofed off all day. Thus, I never learned how to diagram a sentence. WHY did we need to know that anyway? LOL

I went to a private school... 80% of our teachers were already retired!!! They were just strict and motivation was a "foreign" word...
