What Era is Your Favorite?

I love them all, but I have a real place in my heart for the 1920s. Women were bold and sassy. Life seemed more light-hearted after WWI. The fashions were starkly different and way out there. Not that this was particularly new - just look at Marie Antoinette and the Duchess of Devonshire Georgiana Spencer Cavendish. Fashion and hair styles pushed the boundaries then, too. And the 1920's sparked my favorite series - an Australia show called Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries. It is absolutely as enchanting!

What's your favorite and why?

Late 60s. Cuz I was born then, and Peace & Love. I want a time machine and travel to Woodstock!

But if you want me to get "more historical, I'd say 1780-1790s in Stockholm. My favorite Swedish king's reign. Gustaf III was a fascinating man.

I have to think about this but "needed" to comment that I loved the Miss Fischer's Murder Mysteries and her clothes were one of the main reasons. :) @Susan - s3js Also, I know nothing about Swedish History I'm embarrassed to say, but I do love the cool colors and clean look of Gustavian-influenced furniture. @tanteva I look forward to hearing what others have to say.

The Gustavian era is the period when Gustaf III and his son Gustaf IV Adolf were kings. 1771-1809. Furniture and fashion was amazing. Simple and extravaganza at the same time.

The music at Woodstock was the BEST! I was born in 1954 when Rock 'n Roll was really taking off. My kids grew up with music from the 50s to the 80s. Both were born in the 90s but they like "my" music best. I want on your time machine with you, Eva!

That part of the 18th century was simply fascinating all over. I LOVE your historical LOs. They always have such neat information in them.

Yeah, her wardrobe is to die for!

I have great interest in the Middle Ages. I know, not a great age for women, but .... if I could only go back in time .... just for a few days .....
Wouldn't that be awesome :D

Oh, I agree! I am enthralled with the Middle Ages, too! I really have so many eras I would love to visit. When I was working on my Masters in History I did a paper on how elite women in the late 18th century affected social change and I discovered a nifty little book printed in 1895 that opened up my eyes about how women had actually given up their rights, It was written by the first woman to earn her degree from the University of Edinburgh. Women owned land and businesses held titles in their own right, were elected to Parliament, presided over legal courts and had to be consulted by Parliament and the King/Queen and their ministers before certain kinds of laws could be passed. They didn't really give up those rights until well into the middle ages and even then they still had some powers and there were4 MANY elite very powerful women even after. I have an electronic copy of it and would be happy to link you to it. As with any academic endeavor, it's a bit of a slog but fascinating!
