We've had so much fun talking about our "theme songs" Are there any specific songs that have "defining moments" in your life?

Whenever I heard this song on my car radio, I wanted to put "the hammer down". The last thing I remember was the flashing lights behind me.

AWESOME song...Gwen is amazing!!!!! Ah man...this is going to be a TOUGH one for me...I have so many favorite songs in different genres... This is making me think that I need to do a designer challenge about songs instead of my original darkness/Halloween idea that I was chatting with our sweet Ona about....phew.

I was thinking the same thing - a music challenge would be so much fun!

Still, to this day, when I hear or play Gwen's song, I remember that red light going around! I was going REAL fast, too and he knocked it down a little so I wouldn't get a reckless driving ticket. He said he was giving me an "out of state break". I had Florida plates and got pulled over by a State Policeman in Michigan. In my defense, that was when the speed limits were stupidly lowered to 55 on expressways! :floorlaugh: I still love that song, even though. dance3

”We’ve Got the Beat” by the Go-Gos and “Mickey” by Toni Basil because it reminds me of going to the town pool during the summer when I was in middle school. Also, “Somebody” by Depeche Mode cause it’s the first song David and I danced to at our reception. One more is “The Tide is High” by Blondie. It was on the 8 track I picked out after getting my first stereo. And “Forever Young” by Alphaville. It was my high school class song and I listened to it over and over on my 45 to write down all the words so we could include them in the yearbook. (I was co-editor-in-chief of the annual staff my senior year.)

"Philadelphia Freedom" by Elton John immediately takes me back to my parent's backyard when I was a teenager. I was relaxing on a blanket or towel, listening to CKLW on my transistor radio. This would be in the 1970's. There may be others, but that's the first one that popped into my mind.

Those are all great "defining songs", Cindy. I loved my 45's. That brought back some nostalgia.

That's an awesome song, Angie and I remember those days of listening to the transistor radio. Hey, I think that's a sog lyric. Haha

For me not a single song stands out to mark a special occasion or memory. There are many I like but nothing remarkable.

Perhaps the one that may count is 'Ballad of Thunder Road' written and sung by Robert Mitchum for the movie of the same name. We used to bellow it out while in the back of the truck heading for the beach to water ski.

Ohhhh YES PLEASE!!! That would be fun. We don't see many song challenges - especially if you get to choose the song ( they are so subjective!)

Oh WOW y'all!!! SO MANY songs that bring back memories! Most of them just enjoying the music. I had a 45 player too, and a stereo and a radio! Music sounds better on those than on iPhones, I think!
Our 1st song would have to be I Made it Through the Rain by Barry Manilow--
We had just gotten engaged, in college. Hubster's former girlfriend came to visit with a group college tour. That was UGLY. It was also the week of the Sweetheart dance! The chick tried to block me from leaving the dorm to go. I picked her up and moved her outta the way. :floorlaugh::blinddeafdumb: She brought a 12 string guitar to try to bribe him back. He kept me and the guitar, lol. Then two nights after the dance it poured for hours. We celebrated her leaving by running around the muddy baseball field in the rain- we were a MESS but it was fun. Hence- the song- rain; literal and figurative. :D :heartpumpred::giggle4:
Then our song was Lady by Kenny Rogers. That was our aisle song for our wedding- he wanted to sing it but the pastor nixed that idea. WE shoulda insisted. Oh well. He met Kenny two months after the wedding when he stopped into the restaurant Dan was working in !!!
Lastly, Burn the Ships by King & Country- during a year long estrangement from DS, DIL and littles:sad2: We decided to pick up and move on and let them figure themselves out. Thankfully it worked and thankfully we had this song to motivate us!

These two chaps are cute too! :giggle4: :D ;)

Oh my gosh - YES - there are SO many songs that mean so much to me. I love soundtracks to some of our favorite shows, like: "Suits", "Bosch" and "The Sopranos" to name a few.

These are awesome, Amada - I'm listening to both of them right now. What memories. Music is SO much part of our memories.

I love this thread...with the memories of transistor radios and 8 track tapes and 45 records. Definitely takes you back to that time! Some of the songs mentioned are also my songs. "Come Sail Away" by Styx and "Can't Fight This Feeling" by REO are a couple. Oh and "Rainy Days and Mondays" by The Carpenters. I could go on and on.

Hmmmm, where to start? I was in 3rd grade when The Beatles took the US by tsunami and fell in love with their music - then in 7th grade girls choir did "Michelle" and made it personal. Bobby Vinton's "I Love How You Love Me" was also such a sweet song. For Christmas my boyfriend gave it to me and I gave it to him and his suster gave it to him and he to her, too. Not planned, it just happened. "Mandy" and anything by Neil Diamond. I saw him in concert and my seat was to the side and back so I mostly saw him from the rear. Best seat in the house! 'Nuff said!

There are a ton of others depending on when or where. But there are two songs that really define me - "The Star-Spagled Banner" and "The Army Hymn" - joining the Army made me a better person and has informed my life since.

I love your post and I agree about The Star Spangled Banner. I still get chills when I sing/hear this. That's so awesome that you were in the Army - I'm encouraging my youngest GD to go into the military, which she has talked of doing. I saw Neil Diamond in concert too and it was the best show! It was "in the round" and we had excellent seats. Hey, at least you got to see him. Love The Beatles too and had forgotten how much I loved Bobby Vinton's song.

No particular song, but Pat Benetar-- she was such a bad*** and I wanted to be her.

There might be an incident with me and a cheating boyfriend and something about a bottle of vodka and maybe a wooden spoon-microphone on a coffee table stage and Pat Benatar songs... But darned if I can remember. :drunk: Bwhahahah!!!

Too Young by Nat King Cole was "our song" when Bill and I got married. We had 62+ years together.

Though The Years by Kenny Rogers as another special song for us.

Oh, Kay these are both wonderful songs and both of these singers are still two of my favorites. Through the Years has always been one of my favorites, too and it means a lot to Chuck and me, too. You and Bill must have had wonderful years together. :heartpumpred::heartpumpred::heartpumpred:

Kay @BrightEyes I just listened to both of these songs. It's been a while since I listened to "Through The Years". We're in our 44th year of marriage and boy did it just get to me. What a powerful song. Thanks for the memories. :heartpumpred::heartpumpred:
