This was relatively easy to "logic" out without a tutorial except for one thing - knowing that you need to rasterize both the main layer and the effects layer (but you would have quickly figured that when things didn't work as expected). However, I like the tutorial because it's also a good reminder of how to create your own macro. (You can also just download his macro).

I've done this with element shadow layers but I don't as good results altering the shadow layer as I do in Photoshop because I have a hard time finding the handles in the Affinity Mesh tool (they look too much like the grid)
