Hello and welcome to Week 2 of our October Challenges. Our word prompt for this month is RISK. Let's do a deep dive into this powerful word and take some time to explore what this word really means.

Risk: Stepping Into the Unknown
Risk is one of life’s most paradoxical truths. It is defined as exposure to danger, loss, or uncertainty, yet it is also growth, discovery, and love. To live fully is to RISK. Without it, our days remain confined to the safety of repetition- with it, we step into new adventures and sometimes taking "the road less traveled". As Helen Keller once wrote, “Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all.”

RISK
takes many forms. Sometimes it is grand, other times it's quiet, almost invisible: Opening your heart again after heartbreak, speaking your truth when silence feels safer, or beginning a chapter of life you cannot yet see the end of. I
n every case, RISK demands courage, for fear always walks alongside it.

Yet Risk is not recklessness. It is the balance between caution and courage, between preparation and the leap itself. It is listening to our inner voice. Wayne Dyer reminded us, “Don’t die with your music still in you.” Releasing that inner song requires daring - the willingness to RISK misunderstanding, rejection, or failure in order to grow into who we are meant to be.

The value of RISK lies in its transformative power.
Every seed must crack open to become a tree. Every human being must RISK shedding the familiar to embrace what is possible. History itself is shaped by those willing to RISK - Those of us who choose to act despite uncertainty. And in our personal lives, it is the RISKS we take - choosing love, starting anew, trusting others - that become the turning points of our stories.

Here's a mood board I put together for you that I hope gives you even more inspiration as you begin your creative processes.

Here's my layout. I'm terribly afraid of heights but I buried my fear and took a big RISK. I climbed up to a place called "The Painted Rocks" with my granddaughter, Ava. After we reached the top, I even bravely walked out to the edge of the gorge and looked down. I was sweating, and my feet were tingling, but I did it! What a fabulous view from up that high!

You can choose to do a single page, double page, tag, TN each week, or use a divided template—one part for each week. If you don’t have the Divided Template and would like to have it, you can get it here at Dropbox. Thank you to Ona @wombat146 for providing the template choices for us! If you use the template, we would love it if you post incrementally: post one done in the first week, post an image of the two together on the second, and so on until the finished page in the fourth week.

Again—the template is NEVER a requirement, just something fun and different if you want to use it.

Challenge Rules:
  • You have until 11:59 p.m. CST on September 30 to complete your pages for this challenge.
  • To qualify for the drawing, you need to use 80% Oscraps products that are currently in the store (non-Oscraps products or retired O designer products can be used whether the designer is selling elsewhere or not).
  • You need to credit all the products used on your page.
  • You cannot use a page you create for this challenge for another Oscraps challenge.
  • Upload your page to the Art Journal Gallery and then add your layout to the challenge thread. (Below you will find instructions on adding your page to this thread.)
Adding a linked layout from the Gallery to a thread:
  • Upload your layout to the gallery first. In your forum post, click the Gallery Embed icon (little camera).
  • This will open your gallery; simply click on the layout you require, then scroll down to the bottom of the screen and click the Continue button.
  • Your linked layout is now in your post; the image will appear once you have clicked the Post Reply button.
Everyone who participates in any of this month's challenges will be entered into a drawing for a $5 gift certificate to Oscraps. You can receive up to four entries into this month's drawing.

We look forward to seeing your art journaling pages!
