MAC using PSE 12 ???

Riandei

I've learned a few tricks
I'm Mac ...using PSE 12 and I'm having a problem with my TEXT tool

it is stuck in CAPS

I've reset the tool and reset my preferences on relaunch and still stuck

if you have any experience with this I would greatly appreciate any info

I have posted on a PSE board and asked the question there

stalling my scrapping :(

Can you reset the entire preferences? One easy way to do that is to:

1. Press and hold down the command, option, and shift keys. **EDITED** One post said control, alt, shift. I'm not sure which keys are accurate!

2. Right-click on the PSE desktop shortcut and select Open. (If you don't have a two button mouse, you have to hold down the control key to right click. I'm not sure how holding down all four will work for you!)

3. You should then get the pop-up asking -- "Delete the Adobe Photoshop Elements settings file?" Say yes.

If you have too much set the way you want and you don't want to do that, you can try dumping the .plist (preferences) file for PSE. That involves delving into the library though and I'm not sure what settings in PSE you will lose in the process.

A couple of other troubleshooting things you could try:
  • Restart your computer. Right after it shuts down, hold down the command, option, p and r keys. Keep holding them down. Your computer will restart again. Keep holding them down. Let the computer "boing" about three times. You have now "zapped the pram", which can sometimes help.
  • Immediately after you zap the pram, hold down the command key and the s key. You will see a bunch of computer coding come up. Once you get a flashing cursor type fsck -f. (No period at the end.) It will run a quick file system check on your computer and repair things if needed. Once that tells you "Macintosh HD appears OK" or "File System Modified", you type the word exit to finish booting your computer the normal way.
  • Lastly, you can go into Disk Utility (just search for it using the magnifying glass in the top right corner), and select your Hard Drive and then choose "Repair Permissions". This could take quite a while and while you can work while it's running, it might be best to just let it run and come back to it.

I hope something here helps!! Let us know!!

Funny, but I was having a problem with the text tool too. Also on Mac with elements 12. Not the same problem though. It was shutting elements down. I did reset preferences but made no difference. I've just left it a few days and went back to it a minute ago to check and it works. Have no clue what is going on.

somehow THIS worked ...eve tho i went thru the instructions for deleting the PSE settings listed on the adobe site it didn't work ... but your way of holding down the keys and clicking did ...thanks so much

Pleased it worked Riandel. I'm going to give it a go now too. I was able to use the text tool on my last layout yesterday but it did shut elements down at one point. Not sure why.

Many thanks Sara for your help. Aprreciated!
