If you're more "neutral" do you use pops of color? I stick to lots of texture but keep the colors neutral, except in the bedroom where I have gray and tea rose/pink.

Sounds boring but I love my neutral palette, it is warm and peaceful.

That's a good question, and funny that I have been itching to paint some of my rooms quite a bit the last month or so

I hate my house, it's very boring. It's mostly neutral. When we put on the addition in 2003, we were on a very tight budget so everything was done with "contractor level" paint and carpet. We thought that eventually, we would redo each room but then Gary and I both got sick and that was the end of that. I am stuck with beige carpets and white walls.
A couple of years ago, I painted my LR/DR area light grey and the DR walls area sage green on the bottom half.

I would love to redo all of this mess, I have so many ideas --now I only need to rob a bank to get the money for it mwahaha! #devil

The house will be 3 years old in December and it just had builder grade paint. The dogs would run and slam each other into the walls, making it look like the boards of an ice hockey rink. We went from a very neutral beige to a neutral gray. The color is "Agreeable Gray" and is the most popular gray that Sherwin Williams has. The floors are an off white ceramic plank tile and beige carpet upstairs. (In the olden days, I used to paint rooms different colors. Bold and bright. Now I go for colors that will last.)

A very good one...and he has a great eye for color. So when we wanted a change in colors, I would let him choose. He especially loved painting Shaun's bedrooms. Shaun asked for red. My brother went with a bright (almost blood) red with a white racing stripe down the middle of the room. I suggested he lighten it up but he said he wasn't giving Shaun a "pink" bedroom. I hadn't thought about that memory in a long time.

If you're more "neutral" do you use pops of color? Although I'm neutral, my kitchen looks a bit wild. The cabinets are maple and my accessories (including the big Kitchen Aid mixer) are red. The stone island is huge 5' x 10' and the the stone used for that as well as the countertops is a dark patterned granite with splashes of rust color throughout. If that isn't exciting enough, my backsplash is octagons of silver textures.

The walls and ceiling are cream with light tan carpet and mottled light tan tile in kitchen and bathrooms. The doors are white. The cabinets in kitchen and baths are a dark expresso brown. The kitchen countertops are black/dr green granite. The bath countertops are mottled tan and white.

All the walls are in a soft cream that changes from pale cream to a warm gold tone when the sunlight comes into each room

The drapes in several rooms are gold. The furniture in LR and FR are maroon and off-white with a eclectic mixture of wood pieces and wrought iron ones. The master bedroom suite is decorated in royal purple/gold with pops of lilac. The guest room features maroon and gold with grey wood pieces. And the main bathroom is decorated in maroon and green.

I moved into my condo a year ago and most of the walls were painted a brownish color with brown carpeting. I hate it, it makes everything so dark. I have since repainted my bathroom and my bedroom in shades of a blue/green to work with a beachy theme. I have a painter coming out in November to repaint my living area and stairwell and I'm going with a light tan shade. I like white trim so all doors, moldings, etc are white.

Next year I'm planning on ripping out the carpeting and putting in laminate floors. This carpet is practically a shag and it is SO hard to vacuum.

In addition to my bathroom and bedroom being in blues/greens, I'm probably going to paint my kitchen a pale green. But the main living/dining/stairwell area will be tan. It's interesting, when we bought our house back in 1996, the whole house had been painted a pale gray. It looked so clean and fresh at the time. But as the years passed it started to look dirty and boring. I gradually repainted the bedrooms different colors, the family room a pale blue, and the living room and stairways a warm clay tan color. Then I got divorced and moved out, lol.
So in a nutshell, different colors for different rooms for both my former and current homes, but I'm making sure all the colors are light tones and not dark or bold at all.

I have lots of wall art and decorations scattered around, plus most of my furniture is of darker wood tones so that gives some contrast to the lighter walls.

Sort of? When we moved into this house, it was all white. We decided to get it painted before we moved in because we knew we wouldn't do it later. We chose Revere Pewter for all the walls. It's a warm grey - depending on what color is next to it and how the light hits it, it can look from green to beige, to grey. It's a GREAT color!

As a surprise birthday gift for Melissa, we had her room painted in a bright lavender. She still loves it! Then we picked a silver-toned green to go in our bedroom, and we had picked out 3 tiles. In the rush, we told the painters the wrong one. Michael HATES it. Literally says something about it all the time, but we just never get off our butt and fix it. He says it looks like the green from industrial places like hospitals and mental institutions! LMAO!!

A few years ago we decided to paint and redo our laundry room, so it has 3 walls Revere Pewter and one wall a really spicy orange.

Your palette sounds very warm and relaxing, Rae. I love gray tones - I also find them soothing. I had all light gray walls and white trim in one of our former homes.

Linda, your home sounds gorgeous! I love how descriptive you are and I can totally picture it! Our first home in Florida had the most beautiful gray walls - sounds about like your gray color. Are your walls knock-down? I hated those - they were SO hard to paint and our walls were builder grade paint - UGH. I know what you mean - our dogs used to rub on our walls and leave mark.

I had a bright orange dining room in our house in Michigan and loved it. Shaun's red room with the white racing stripe sounds awesome - I'm sure he loved it! I used to love to paint and I painted my DD's kitchen and DR bright red - many coats of it - over the knock-down on the walls.

Kay, your home sounds lovely - I love that you have purple and gold and lilac in the MBR! That sounds so unique. I ccan just see the sun coming in and how it changes the color of your walls. I have that same phenomena - sometimes, in the bright sunlight, my tan walls have a pink tint to them. I love that - I'm SO soothed by the changing colors of my walls.

Your granite sounds beautiful, too. I love granite!

How exciting that you've started repainting, Angie and I know you're anxious for the painter to come. Your color choices sound so pretty, and I do love a beachy theme. We have gorgeous wood laminate flooring and it looks like real wood (without the upkeep of real wood). It's distressed which makes it even better.

I'm like you - I've been through many phases with paint color - I used to paint different colors in different rooms, too. Back in my "carpeting days" I always had the same color carpet running through my house, though. I liked the color flow.

About your bedroom - bringing home the little strips - that's SO tricky and so easy to make a mistake on!

@Cherylndesigns Definitely! and with different light! We had strips and the Pantone colors of all 3 of our choices. We weren't going to paint it the same time as the other stuff, then Mike said to go ahead and do our bedroom, and I told them the wrong paint color from the wrong color strip! IT was supposed to be Silverleaf Sage or something like that and I picked the Cool Sage one. I still feel bad about it 7 years later!!

You sound SO much like me, Jane! I used to buy as tiny amount as I could and paint a little bit on the wall so I could see what the color looked like at different times a day. I also used to bring those paint chips home and wedge them behind the light switches where I could look at them all day long. LOL

He said that he and Caitlyn were talking the other night about where they were in their lives, jobs, relationships, all of that. They agreed that if we didn't go through that as a family and come through it the way we did, they might not have turned out as strong and determined and family-oriented as they are. Makes it worthwhile. (sort of -- it would have been nice to have that happen without the illness and medical bills )

You DID come out on "the other side" stronger as a family. You've all been through a lot and what he said was (I'll say it again) just wonderful. You're all a special family. I always say "what doesn't kill us makes us stronger". Decorating your house can certainly wait - there is a "season" for everything.
