Hot cocoa

Ok, so I have been watching lots of Christmas movies lately, and I have to ask: Do Americans really drink hot cocoa all the time, or is that just "a thing" in Christmas movies?

In Sweden I'd say hot cocoa is mainly for kids. Maybe with sandwiches for breakfast or snack. Being adult and drinking hot cocoa is kinda seen as strange. Also, we don't add half a candy store in the mug. Usually just hot cocoa, and sometimes some whipped cream.

And, how do you make your hot cocoa? I usually make mine (cuz I'm a child in my mind and still love me some hot cocoa) by just microwaveing som milk and stir in some instant cocoa. (Also, love to add a teaspoon of instant coffee to it. Yummy!) Occasionally, I make it the old-school way: boiling milk on the stove with sugar and cocoa powder.

Please, tell me all I need to know about hot cocoa! How do you make it? What do you add? Yummy recipes?

I love hot cocoa but don't make it that much. If I do, it's made in the microwave. However, I do love to put a few spoons of hot cocoa mix in with my coffee every morning. It gives my coffee a little hint of chocolate.

It’s kind of a tradition here and not necessarily just for kids. I always have instant cocoa in the house, but prefer making it from scratch. I add a little strong coffee to it sometimes, and whipped cream, if I have it. And some sometimes, I add a pinch of cayenne pepper for a kick — but not when I add coffee. Lol.

Hot cocoa and whipped cream!
i love it cold too, but prefer hot. Microwave is easiest, no overboiling milk and burned pans.

One thing about hot cocoa that I forgot to mention: when I met Urban, he told me he couldn't drink hot cocoa, cuz it gave him nose bleed. To be honest, I thought he wasn't telling the truth. Maybe lying cuz he didn't like, or maybe had happened once, and he thought it was true. No big deal. I just drink my hot cocoa, and he could have tea or coffee.

Then John was born, and when he drank hot cocoa, yep, you guessed it. Nose bleed. Gotta be something genetic.

Both of them can eat chocolate & drink cold cocoa, but not hot.

That is really wild about Urban and Jogn getting nosebleeds. My first thought was maybe the hot steam was affecting their noses. But then it would happen with coffee too. I know you Swedes love your coffee #coffee

I don't usually drink hot chocolate but there always is some in the house- powder mixes or syrup. Caitlyn and Tom make theirs with almond mild and dairy free whipped cream:D

I love hot cocoa. However, it just isn't quite the same here. I usually just make mine in the microwave and add some chocolate syrup. Sometimes I take the time to heat it on the stove...not that it is better that way...just reminds me of the way that we used to do it! I often add some miniature marshmallows on the top.

My cousins wife told me a couple of years ago that one of her favorite memories of my mom was from the late 70's. My brother and one of my cousins went to rival schools and played basketball against each other. During those games, most of my aunts and uncles and cousins would come to watch. After the game, everyone would come back to our house and Mom would make hot chocolate. There was usually snow on the ground and it was cold.

Thanks for reminding me of this memory Eva!

I LOVE IT! But the past few years-after gall bladder removal it doesn't like ME! We always have it with Christmas cookies. Friday we will be taking the grands to a light display and we'll have a thermos of hot cocoa and a bag of cookies. I only drink it in the winter. I will still have it even t hough it makes me feel a bit queasy in my tum. Some traditions don't die, LOL!

I love hot chocolate. Wish it didn't have so many dang calories. I really prefer marshmallows over whipped creme and I also love mint hot chocolate.

I like it, and have instant packs in the house.. Hubby will make one late morning for himself on cold days as we cut down to one pot of coffee a day (2 cups each)... I like Mocha Coffee, so sometimes my 2nd cup of coffee will have the sugarfree chocolate powdered creamer in it :)
