Do you create meaningful layouts...

... or do your pages just sort of happen? I used to be a very focused scrapper and all my pages would be about something - an event, a place, etc... but recently I've been playing, rather than scrapping - just trying out new things, experimenting, being creative, rather than productive... I strugle to say what my latest page is about - my mind was literally blank when I was creating this...

So I've been wondering... do you guys start a page with an idea in mind?

Most of my pages start off with a purpose in mind. However I should try your new approach and just start to play around a bit more.

I love to "play" and experiment. It depends on what kind of pages I need, though. I love Art Journaling and most of my pages kind of morph into that. That being said, I do love scrapping all of the pictures I have. LOL

It depends on what products I have, what kind of layouts I need to make and the photo(s). I always try to give my layouts a personal touch. I start with an idea in my head, but sometimes the idea changes and I end up with a completely different result.

It totally depends on what you think is "meaningful". I have scrapped all the childhood photos of my daughter and 300 pages of genealogy that are meaningful for me and my family.
But I also have many pages that are just pretty pieces of artwork that I had pleasure in creating and in their own way meaningful on a very personal level as a creative being. They chronicle my evolving skills and changing styles. That in itself is meaningful to me. It doesn't matter to me where the photo came from as I appreciate the skill of the photographer as a catalyst for my page. If the page doesn't 'speak' to me I don't keep it.

I struggle to make pages that aren't meaningful to me - I think it's how I justify my time spent scrapping, that I'm recording my family's stories. It's very rare I do a page without photos that I've taken or that feature people I love or tell some sort of story about our lives.

I used to be very strict about only doing pages that were meaningful to me. Lately though I've been willing to play around a little more and just create things for fun.

It depends on the product - mostly the wordart is crucial. Then I try to find the right photo and create the layout. But it can also be that I discard everything (when I am unhappy with the result) and do something completely different.

It totally depends on what you think is "meaningful". I have my CT work and artistic pages that are very meaningful to me to express my creativity! Also I have my digital scrapbooking more traditional style (not all of them go online) making albums and presents for the family and my self. Things I print. My work is very versatil! I love to learn and do all kinds of things! That keeps me going!

I rarely scrap anything that doesn't have meaning to me. I always scrap with the plan to print. I would like to branch out a bit into something more playful.

I use my photos or heritage photos of my family 95% of the time. So yes, my layouts are definitely meaningful to me. When I art journal, I don't use photos or I use some ephemera or image in the collection. Those also are meaningful but in a different way.

I mean this is so subjective right? I am not doing heritage or scrapping for 'my kids' I am scrapping purely for the fun of it and so each page is totally different for me and might be about an every day event or something important (getting married, my goddaughter having a baby, etc) and I love to make art journal photoless style layouts. I think all of my layouts mean something to me, but they may not be about something meaningful, if you know what I mean - e.g my fave mug means a lot to me, but it's not necessarily meaningful..

I scrap some pages for me, some that I think the family will appreciate and some that are just fun to do. I have no set rules or structure for my scrapping.
