Deleting photos from my phone...

What do you with the photos you've backed up on cloud?

I am running out of space on my phone - I have more than 5,000 photos stored on my device at the moment. All of them have been uploaded to Google Photos and this is where I get the photos I scrap. Would you just delete them from the phone? Or would you back them up somewhere else just to be safe?

All my other photos - but the 5,000 in question - are backed up on Google Photos AND several EHDs - though this seems like a bit of an outdated technology to me, as a few years back I had to replace two of the very old ones because they've become incompatible with my new laptop. I bought new EHDs and copied everything onto them, but now I'm wondering if it makes sense to buy more EHDs to back up the photos currently on my phone...

Deleting photos is scary...

Everyone has their own process, and I am amazed to hear of the different processes. Here is mine:
I do not keep photos on my phone. I put them onto my computer, organized by date and event. I also have a copy of the photos transferred to 2 external hard drives. I create scrapbook pages with almost every event that I have photographed which I print into hard copies to keep at home. I do print the albums through Shutterfly which keeps a digital copy of my album.

It is scary to remove them from your phone. I get that. I just take too many photos to keep them on mine :)

I'm like Laura, I take waaaaaay to many photos. I keep the current year and a few special ones on my phone but I do back up to my laptop, 2 EHD and I scrap/print my layouts and so I have hard copies of most of my photos. It is scary to delete but the more I do it the easier it is to do. I take roughly 300-500 a month depending on events so its too much. I delete the subpar photos too without worry about backup. I dont use cloud as it scares me and years ago they said I had to pay for it. So nope. When I have scrapped the layout, the photos come off my phone unless I know I will want to share them with others, like surgery photos before and after. I have my favorite photos of my FIL and hubs and I that I dont delete. I love to look back. I have scrapbooks for every year from 2012 forward so I dont worry too much if I loose the photos. I would cry, dont get me wrong, but I do have a hard copy of them.

Mine automatically back up to Google Photos and Flickr. I don't keep any "bad" photos, or duplicates on my phone. Since I know they're backed up, it isn't scary and if I need them, they're in one of these two places. I have Flickr Premium and I also pay for Google, so I pretty much leave those two platforms alone. I have over 40,000 pictures on Flickr, and have been a Premium member since 2008 and rarely delete anything. I also have the pictures in Albums.

I put my photos onto my computer as soon as I can. I have an EHD that I put them on also. On our summer trips I take about 17,000 pics between my phone and Canon so I put the pics in folders of that campsite. I do live some on phone for reference since I cam bring up the location to remind me where we went. Other than trips I put them into a yearly folder what contains other folders with event or location titles. It get overwhelming sometimes.
Good luck with whatever message you choose.
