Whaaa??? What happened to February?

Well, Ben couldn't sleep in. Figures. It's a dark, cold, snowy Saturday and I don't have to leave the house at all and he wakes up early. LOL

Oh well, there's bacon in the oven for breakfast so that makes everything better.

A lot to do today to get ready for the shower tomorrow. I went to the store last night along with half the world because we are going to have 4-6 inches of snow today and it will be subzero. brrrr So all I have to do is cook and clean.

Most of all....I'm thinking and praying for you dear Chris. I am sending every positive thought I have your way.

Ok. Let me go back and address yesterday now.

Wooooo hoooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! It's March!!! Getting closer to Spring!!!!!:hippie: Not that the weather forecast is showing that, but maybe the weather will catch up soon. I have a few Weather Blogs that I stalk and they are all calling for 12+ inches of snow Sun-Mon. A friend who lives in my town posted on FB that she saw a report of 2-4" OMGOMGOMG!!! I am so hoping that she is right and that everyone else is wrong. I am running all over the internet trying to find her forecast so I have a good one to latch on to. haha!!!!! No luck with that so far, but I am going to keep on searching.

As you can tell since I am here typing away, my first day of infusions went well, no keeling over in drs office, anaphylactic shock.... its all good. There are only two things I don't like. 1. I have to rely on someone else to hook the syringes to my line and 2. Its soooo cold!!! If any of you have had IV fluids, you know that feeling! But I made sure that i have my heat pack under my arm as I do the push, so it offsets that feeling of cold.

Cait and I went to the nail salon too. I have bright pink fingers and toes to show that I am gonna kick some breast cancer ASS!!!! :)
I also remembered why I don't do my nails or get them done. I screwed up *4* of them before I even left the place. :bolt: :p No worries though. The surgical team is going to be so focused on my boob they won't even notice the crazy smudges on my nails.

(in case you hadn't noticed, my crazy-self is *back,* baby!!!)

Aside from the weather, most of the loose ends are getting taken care of and that is helping my attitude so much. Whew!! It only took me how many weeks??? LOL

So if everyone helps me out, and keeps their fingers and toes crossed that the NE doesn't get much snow at all, I will be able to keep my sanity intact.
(Oh stop laughing! I have some sanity. Some. Just not a lot!)

Love and hugs to all of youuuuuuuuuuu!

(Sara and I posted at the same time so I merged these)

Sara, why is that with little kids? The days they have to get up you can't get them up, the days they can sleep, they don't. I'll never figure that one out. Bacon for b-fast sounds delish!!!
I hope that you don't get much snow either. We are -1*F and its just too much! Yesterday we got to 20* and I swear, it felt warm. SMH! Hope that you have a great baby shower! And TY for the prayers!

Chris, i just had a thought reading your post. are you sure you're allowed to have nail polish on when you're having surgery??? it's my memory that you're not!!! i hope i'm wrong, but i think the anesthesiologist needs to see the color of your fingers under the nails. well, i guess you'll find out later. at least getting them done was fun! it's great to see you feeling a little wild and crazy. the weather forecast is just unbelievable. and i hope they're WRONG!!! i have to look at my various radars to see what's what. i found a really good weather app, Intellicast. great radar, lots of choices. you can even choose to see where recent earthquakes are on your map. you can see it on your computer, too. just Google "Intellicast." and good luck. what time is you surgery scheduled for? early, i hope.

Sara, why do kids just KNOW when it's a day when MOM can sleep in?? i'm hearing 6+ inches for us. tomorrow through Monday night. :pout: :hurt:

Trudy, thanks for the Sugarplum Fairy!! it's nice to have some sugar, even though it's digital!!

speaking of sugar, high on my list this a.m. is baking some almond flour thumbprint cookies. Splenda. (i know. it'll kill me. but i'm already OLD. :pound:) sugar-free apricot jam. i need something fast for breakfast and something for dessert. then i guess i have to get to WalMart for this and that, then some more door sanding for the kitchen project.

have an excellent weekend! :becky:

Chris, do you know why it is that sometimes, even though we're signed in, when we try to post, it says we're not allowed to do that, and the post can be GONE?? that happens to me regularly. sometimes i can get the post back by hitting the back arrow and copying and pasting the post into a new post. i've been trying to remember to SAVE my post before i try to post.

Ok, now I am better. Yay coffee!

Ack! Phyllis- I didn't know that about nail polish and no one told me. I know all about not being able to take meds, to not swallow water when brushing my teeth. I have only had one surgery (tubes tied) and that was when Cait was still a baby ;) I just googled it and it says b/c you need to have an oxygen monitor on your finger. Bummer!!!

I have to be at the hospital at 6.45 to drop off a urine sample so they can make sure I am not pg. Well, duh!! Then over to Breast Center by 7 where they will insert guide wires to the cancerous area, tape them down and send me back to the hospital for the actual surgery. (Sorry if TMI.) So yes, early, and I should be either home or back to MIL's by afterschool-time. Guessing 3pm?

T- I always say that I am going to go to our local farmer's market in the summer and then I never do. I really should because fresh fruits and veggies are so yummy!

Sara- good tip with the Kitchen Aid. I do have one, do you use the regular beater attachment?

Yay for your Devils, Nancy! It has been soooooo darn cold, hope that you do good staying warm!

Phyllis- we *will* defeat the Sadistic Weather Gods. Someday. Maybe in the Spring. Before we hit 100% humidity.

Trudy- happy belated anniversary! 37 years!! Hope that you enjoyed your walk and fresh air, I know I need that soon!

Morning ladies! I went to go make the eggs and toast to go with the bacon and am back. Maybe Chris is regrouped too. LOL I hate it when that happens!!

Phylis I think I remember them taking it off only one finger. The one they put the pulse-ox on. Hopefully, Chris only has to sacrifice one!! LOL On a different note, You should look into a password manager program. 1Password, Last Pass, and Keypass are all ones that are good.

T - Your puppy sounds adorable. My sister-in-law just got a 6 month old peekapoo and he is stinking cute! She says he is pretty good too. Ben is jealous!!

Nancy is it going to be cold for you too this weekend? Our high tomorrow is going to be 4. blech!!!

Trudy - I'm jealous that you get to go for a walk! I can't wait for warmer weather. I really don't want much...just 30 degrees would be nice!!!!

Ok. I have to get my March challenge up everyone. I'll check in later today!

good morning I was so busy yesterday - my son and I did some major cleaning and I got my laundry done. It is so nice to come down stairs and see my house back the way I want it. And then I went for a walk. The temp had gone from 10 to 25 it was a heat wave LOL. But amazing how nice it was as there was not wind. Felt good to get out. My hockey team plays at 1 pm today so I will have hockey all day and all night.

Chris it so sounds like you have everything in control. No wonder you are feeling happier. I will be sending good thoughts prayers and hugs!

Sara of course your son was up early that is what kids do. We are going to get really cold after the storm goes through but not today. Hope you do not get too much snow. Have fun at the shower tomorrow.

Phylis will be fun tonight watch the Penguins play the Blackhawks at Soldier Field. I hope it snows it is so pretty when it snows during the games.

Trudy glad your are not getting that rain and your snow photos are so pretty!

Have a great day all!

Sara, thanks for the password prigrams info!! i have to look into that. what i'm doing now with passwords is SOOO annoying.

Nancy, i'll bet the players aren't nuts about playing in the snow! or maybe they are. maybe it makes them think about when they were little, skating on a lake someplace. if there even ARE hockey players left who ever skated outside.

Chris, i didn't realize that you'd be out of the hospital on the same day!!! that still freaks me out. you can tell what an Oldie I am. people used to be in the hospital for 4 days having a baby. now they're out on the street the next day. i'm thinking of you, kiddo.

Happy Saturday everyone!! Cold front moving in from way up North today! Better keep an eye on the hummingbird feeder again :mmph: It was so gorgeous yesterday and now today we are expecting more snow and freezing temps.
freez-in1-smiley.gif
It was such a warm day yesterday that most of our snow is melted and DH and I went for another walk when he got home from work. Now we will be stuck inside for the next few days!

Sara - yummmm, bacon!! love it, but do not like having the smell of cooking it hanging around my kitchen all day, so I get DH to cook it on the BBQ. He does a better job of cooking it too, it always turns out just right and I usually cook it too long. Darn kids, I swear they know that you want to sleep in and they just want to get up and play! Its a shame you can't get them up like that on school days though! :becky:

Chris - My goodness you sound like you are feeling so much better!! So nice that you had a good time with Cait and got your nails done, I hope you don't end up having to remove all that pretty pink polish! It is so nice to have Crazy Chris back with us again!! Here's a coffee bath for you to soak all day in today!
coffee-bath-smiley.gif

Phylis - That too bad that you are still having problems with the posting/signing in thing! I have no idea why it happens? :noidea: When I lose my posts its because instead of opening up two windows on Mac I swipe back to look at something and I lose whatever I had already posted its so maddening
computer-losy-smiley.gif
but it is so my own fault!!
it-was-him1-smiley.gif
Hope you don't get the snow and freezing temps that they are calling for everywhere else. I guess the only ones that are having the weather that they want is California, they are finally getting the rain they have been praying for!

Nancy - Isn't it nice when the cleaning is all done and your house is sparkling again!! I love that feeling!! I have to admit that I am a bit of a neat freak, so my house is usually neat and tidy. Hubby is worse than me so I never have to pick up after him. I am lucky!! Enjoy your hockey game today, DH will be glued to the tele today also.

So I guess the order for breakfast today is waffles, so I guess I better get started, then off to the grocery store again, man I wish we didn't need to eat!! We would all have so much more money for other things in life!! Have a great Saturday everyone!

So, if anyone hasn't tried it...we do bacon in the oven. If you have a self cleaning oven, it's the best way ever! We turn the fan on, which helps diminish the bacon smell. Put the bacon on parchment paper or tin foil on the pan. Put it in a cold oven and turn on the heat to 400. Bake for 17 - 20 minutes. I like to turn ours halfway through because our oven cooks uneven. Sooooo easy and turns out perfect! :) It was a great breakfast with bacon, eggs, toast, orange juice and coffee.

The food parts are done for the shower except for me slicing strawberries for the trifles. Look at my ogre fingers:

Yes ma'am. I saw it on Pinterest. Tint premade sugar cookie dough green, roll into long shapes and use a toothpick to make the knuckles. Sliced almonds for the fingernails. :)

Pinterest- that reminds me that I want to look for a recipe for kale chips over there. One of my friends who lives on my street stopped by last night with a bag of goodies from a store that sells amazing fresh fruits and veggies, She put together bag of them (and a bottle of wine!!!) for me. One of the things inthere was a bunch of kale and I keep hearing how good kale chips are, so I want to make up a batch today.

As for the snowstorm.... Who the heck knows what is going to happen. I have heard totals from 2-4" to 14" The totals seems to be going down which is awesome, but I honestly think that no one knows until it happens. Even *more* than is typical.

Today I have some last minute things to do to get ready, coffee with my friend, hang with my fam, and watch the weather.:)

oh yeah, I also have to post some Lo's I did for the March challenges-- the ladies have done some amazing work, as always.

Sara, the fingers are Fabulous!!! what fun!

Trudy, i have to look at your radar to see the direction of your incoming weather. isn't it fascinating how stuff moves around this planet? i was watching the rain in California for a few days develop into this snowstorm that's coming east. it's arrived here. it's snowing at the moment. now it's 4-8" we're supposed to get. sigh. :pout: how much snow did you end up getting from your storm?

Chris, i can't get my head around kale. in any form. i've never even tasted it, but all i can think is "green and BITTER." ewwwww! hope you end up on the low end of the snow. make sure you get down to your inlaws before it hits!!

baking some almond flour "bread" this morning and watching it snow. today it looks like a lot of dusting and vacuuming. i've neglected my upstairs for a few weeks and the dust is probably an inch thick. ewwwww for THAT, too!

well, if you're in The Snow Zone, hunker down and bake something! then EAT it! have a lovely Sunday. :becky:

good morning had a nice day yesterday and it started when my husband went to the grocery store. I hate going so when he goes it really makes me happy. Then my NJ Devils came away with a 6-1 win over the Islanders. Jaromir Jagr got his 700th goal. Amazing! The temperatures had warmed so much that I went for a long walk. The in the evening was the final Stadium Series game between the Blackhawks and Penguins. It was snowy and gorgeous! Now today I my team is playing the San Jose Sharks. Should be fun. And seems like the snow will wait until after my game is over. And they have really decreased the amount of snow coming. That is great.

Chris seems like northern Jersey is not going to get much snow at all. Have a calm day tomorrow and I will be sending good thought all day!

Sara those ogre fingers are awesome! love the almonds for finger nails. Have fun today with at the shower.

Phylis the Penguins looked like they did not like playing in the snow as much as the Blackhawks. Love the snowy shots!

Trudy I think a real sign that spring is coming is just how fast weather changes. Warm to snow and back again. Hope you are not stuck inside too long.

Have a great day all!

Sara, I am going to have to try the bacon in the oven trick. Cait likes her bacon "flat" which can't happen when I am trying to fry it in a pan. I hope I only have to sacrifice one nail too- any chance they will pick one of the 4 I messed up?LOL

Nancy- I did 3 loads of laundry too. ugh. But only one more today and I am done! (until tomorrow.... it never, ever ends...). Do you ever get "Hockey Overload?" I doubt it!

Yup, same day. They do that a lot now. My client who had the double mastectomy-- in the hospital for less than 24 hours-- sounds brutal!

Trudy- those poor little birds! You are such a good momma to them. I adore that coffee bath! I wish there was some way I can store that since I will not be able to have coffee tomorrow. I am NOT going to be a happy camper from that. :twitch:
Waffles!!!! All of you are making me so hungry, and here I am talking about kale chips.....
man I wish we didn't need to eat!!
hahahah!! This was my convo with Cait the other morning! She asked what we were having for dinner and I had no idea, full-out panic. Said: Why does everyone have to eat every day!? Gah!!!!

Have a great time at the shower, Sara!!!

Blech, Phyllis- so sorry about the snow for you.The almond flour bread sounds kind of good. Is it a sweet bread?

Good morning Nancy! Yes, I have been obsessively watching the snow totals and if they stay low, I think I am just going to stay in my own bed tonight and have Gary carefully drive me down in the morning. Sounds liek you had a really fun day of hockey! And high fives to you for still walking in this weather!

Chris - It will make it fairly flat, but it does curl up a little still. Kale chips are so easy. Rinse them off and then dry them really well. That's the hardest part. Then tear the leaves from the stems. Lay them on a pan and drizzle with some oil (whatever kind floats your boat). Sprinkle with a little sea salt or whatever other seasoning you'd like...garlic salt, paprika, etc. Bake until crispy. I don't remember what temp for sure...probably 325 or 350 because they can burn easily. Keep an eye on them because they go from fine to burnt kind of fast. Do NOT try to store them in a plastic baggie. They get gross and soggy. LOL We barely got anything, maybe two inches. I hope it works that way for you too!

Phylis - I didn't think I'd like kale too, until I had Olive Garden's Zuppa Tuscana soup and had it in that. mmmmmm My upstairs is a disaster too. The downstairs is beautiful at the moment, but not the upstairs! Lord help me if someone got desperate for a bathroom and had to use our bedroom one!

Nancy - don't you love it when they go to the store? Until they didn't get what you asked or something that you always know to get and you need. LOL

Ok. I have to get up and moving. I have a meeting before the shower...hopefully, that all runs on time. :) Have a great day!!

Nancy, good GRiEF!!! the Penguins in the snow was a total DISASTER!!! i'm just going to forget about that game. sounds like your guys are stepping it up!

Sara, i have to look into a recipe for that soup. soup usually tones down the taste of some greens. have a fun shower!

Chris, get your butt down the hill TODAY so you don't have to be driving in the dark down a snowy road tomorrow!!!! make it easy on yourself. just think how LITTLE travel stress there will be tomorrow if you're already down there!

finished all the vacuuming and dusting. apparently we have developed some sort of a leak in our livingroom (closed up and not functioning) fireplace. it's always something with houses.... now on to some ironing and laundry. i don't think the snow is going to amount to a whole lot. it looks to be over by tonight, and i think they're saying around 3-4 inches. again, The Weather Bitch wants to be a weather forecaster when she grows up. it would be kind of like the people who get money for NOT growing things. :becky:

Morning all of my favourite "O" people, Well we did end up getting a couple of inches of new snow, but not nearly as much as they told us we would have. It is now trying to rain and so there will be a slushy wet mess around here for a few days!

Sara - Such a cute idea, I will have to remember this when the grandkids come next time, it would be fun to make with them!! Have a fun time with your shower today, I bet its awesome!

Chris - I will be thinking of you all day today and tomorrow, wish you were staying closer to the hospital and did not have to worry about the drive! I am sure it will all be ok! Enjoy your time with your family and your BFF!

Phylis - I was going through a magazine that I get from Home Hardware and found this great recipe for a flour less Lemon Almond Pound Cake and thought of you. So here it is, let me know if you can't read it very well and I will send it by email to you.

Not sure if you are into lemon cakes, but I love them and thought that it was cool that it is gluten free. There is also a recipe for gluten free raspberry peach galette but it doesn't look as good as this lemon cake, yummmm!

Nancy - You will have to let me know your secret to getting your husband to go grocery shopping for you. Mine goes with me but won't go on his own unless I am out of town. Enjoy your game today!!

Well I went and forgot to buy potatoes yesterday  I am always forgetting to get something!! Hard to have a nice Roast Beef dinner without potatoes! I think I will even do Yorkshire pudding tonight too! Hope you are all having an amazing Sunday! Everyone send Chris lots of good vibes for her surgery tomorrow!!

Trudy, thanks for the recipe! i'll have to figure out a substitution for the potato flour. (my prob is not gluten. it's carbs....) i love lemon anything, so this is a definite "try me!"

Chris, eeeeewwwww!!!

well, Winter Storm Titan dropped about 4 inches of snow on us and left. yikes. the Storm of the Century. ridiculous. looks like the mess is hanging further south than it was supposed to. looks like DC is going to get slammed again.

Arrgghhh! I had a nice long post and then the internet ate it (I typed so long, I got logged out of the site and then when I hit the reply button, Poof! it was gone and just the mocking sign-in page glaring at me. ...sigh..

I goofed and put the wrong title on my other post for the weekend but didn't realize it until I came online just now and saw 2 weekend editions. lol! Thanks, Sara, for helping out bumbly me. :)

Phylis - Oooh, almond bread sounds yummy! I've seen recipes but never tried it. We went to an amazing little gluten-free bakery when we were in Seattle last year. I think it was called Flying Apron or something like that. It was at the fish market area and everything was gluten-free and a lot of dairy-free and VERY delish! I could have hoovered up all the shelves of goodies they had if I had stayed there long enough. :)

Nancy - Yay on the hockey fun. And a big yay on the warmer weather for you. So glad you had a chance for some nice walks outside. Those days make it possible to hold on to the hope of spring when the weather gets fickle and goes back to yucky!

Sara - Those ogre fingers are so amazingly real I don't think I could eat them. lol! Now, the kale chips....I could scarf down a couple of trays, especially if they have a little nutritional yeast, garlic powder and chili powder sprinkled on them. YUMMMM!

Trudy - Waffles?! Save me some!!! ;) That lemon cake looks beyond scrumptious! When I was a kid, I loved those soft lemon iced cookies from...oh, what was the company..Arrow bakery or something.. And then, later in life, I had a lemonade cake so lemon anything is bound to be good, I think. :)

Chris - I'm with Phylis in being kind of knocked over by how short of a time you'll be at the hospital. I was thinking it would be days but technology and medical advances are amazing these days, aren't they? I'm sending you lots of hugs, happy thoughts and prayers. :)
