 Who else is still struggling to recover from the holidays?
I am so darn tired. I feel like as much as I am getting done, there is still so much more to do.
I got a bunch of laundry done, almost all of the gifts are put away. Plates and plasticware are all washed and put away for the next party. That *big* one will be in May- college graduations! Plenty of time for me to ignore that prospect - plenty. LOL
In the afternoon, I took a break from housework and wanted to get started on a new crochet project. MIL ordered the yarn for me and it is so soft and pretty. But damn, it is difficult to work with. It is a cotton/bamboo blend and very slippery. I have the foundation rings done but I think I am going to have to redo them all. The yarn is so lightweight that I think I need to either use a smaller hook or pull the stitches tighter. Maybe both? I swatched it with the hook the pattern rec'd but there isn't any "substance" to the round.
Any of you knitters or crocheters have any tips or advice?

I have nothing planned today, still slowly getting the house in order.
I have to admit, I can't wait to get take the tree down. I love it, it still looks and smells wonderful. But I need to open up the space in the LR- I am tired of tripping over everything that is in my way. Dogs, trees, sofas...

I would also love to get some scrap time in today- now that I have a bunch of photos from the holidays.
wishing everyone a wonderful weekend! xoxo!

Kay- oh yuck! Did you get to take a nap, bet you needed it. I miss the coffee smilies too. This one ~> :tea: doesn't cut it. Oh, no way! The dog couldn't get out of the comforter?? hahahaha!! The rats have done that with Caitlyn's comforter and pillow but not the dogs. W will de-stuff the padding in her crate and we used to restuff it but at this point, I give up.

Trudy- what a fantastic holiday! So happy to hear that it was filled with laughter. Did all of the grands have a good time too?
Oh, you are terrible- saying your relatives could be called animals. :nono: LOL
I have lots of leftovers too but it is mostly all junk. I used the leftover cheeses and the fresh spinach that I forgot to put out for salad to make a quiche for dinner last night.

Rae- How far along are you in The Witcher. We finished Episode 3 last night and I am struggling a bit with the different storylines. I heard that it is slow to start but then gets really good. I am wondering if that is true!
Awwww, what a cutie Taz is running around with the paper. I adore that pup!

Felis- I hope that your workday was an easy one and so nice to hear that the holiday was fun!

Sharon- lucky you not having to cook! Simple is sometimes the *best* way to go. I wish I knew how to do that ;)

hugs!

Well, I made up for the lost sleep.. fell asleep by 9 and slept until 7:30 this morning!! That is the longest I have slept in a very long time. DD#3 came over yesterday afternoon for a long visit. Had not seen her since we got back from Las Vegas the end of November. It was just her and I (no family along) so we chatted and laughed the time away. She brought me the neatest thing. It looks like a funny squat plastic lady with holes in the top of her head. You put in a bit of vinegar and fill halfway with water - pop her into the microwave and run it for a couple of minutes. That creates a mist that sprays the top and sides of the microwave and loosens any gunk so you just wipe it clean. DD also helped me place time-wise a bunch of photos I had just scanned into the computer. I think I will work on scanning photos from an album of when DH and I lived in New York. Only have a couple of the photos scanned in and it is a big album. Weather is iffy today so that is a good way to spend the day.

Must admit that I miss having lots of leftovers from a holiday meal but am glad to not having to do the prep for one. Will be having the turkey and gravy for supper tonight along with the pumpkin pie. Yummy!

Well, it is almost time to wrap 2019 year up and head into the new year. Really hoping that 2020 will be a much better year. Wishing the same for all of you. I don't make resolutions ... as I usually can't seem to keep them. But I do like to look back over the year and think about what all occurred - the good and the not so good events. That seems to put me in a positive frame of mind as the new year begins.

Just more post-holiday today, a little more laundry and then tonight hoping to find a spot for dinner at our usual place to watch the Ohio State bowl game (as we don't have ESPN, can't watch at home). Also back to working on genealogy stuff that I've let slide. One set of the photos from my Christmas walk are here: https://ozone.oscraps.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=422699&title=a-christmas-walk&cat=all

Chris, you make a good case for removing decorations like the tree, but I hate to put them away. We don't put them up early and I like them around into January. Boy did you get some thoughtful gifts. Afraid I can't help with your crochet. I've never used that kind of yarn and my skills are very rusty. Using a smaller hook is worth trying but will make a smaller finished piece.

Seems like everyone described warm and happy celebrations, so we all are lucky.

Morning ladies... It is super foggy this morning and the forecast is for rain for the rest of the day! It will be a good day to stay home and just relax!! However we have to do a bit of running around today as per usual. I need to return or exchange a pair of hiking pants that DH got for me for Christmas, they are a bit too big. We weren't supposed to get each other anything, but of course we both did. I got him a pair of much needed new slippers that were too small for him :mmph: But they fit FIL so we let him take them home with him. He needed a new pair too LOL. Now I will have to search for a new pair for DH!! Hopefully I can find some on sale! Not much needed in the way of groceries, but will need to get a few staples. I think we will be making lots of turkey pie and I need to look up some recipes for all the leftover ham I have too. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Chris - I hope that you get your house in order, but I always get sad when I have to take down the tree! I love my new tree and my decorations! I will miss the glow and looking at it in the evenings! Great idea to use your leftover cheese for making a quiche, I think I will make a frittata with mine as I can't have the crust of a quiche. I had a piece of pumpkin pie the other night at my sister's but did not eat the crust, it was so yummy!! My sister makes the best pumpkin pies!! I also forgot to put out the cranberry jelly for my Christmas dinner (I always forget something!) . Everyone bugged me about it the next day, but no one said a word during dinner :mmph: It would have taken 2 seconds to grab it out of the fridge people really??? I hope to get in some scrap time today also!! Jason has been sending awesome photos from Disney World so would love to make a page with those!

Kay - What a cute gift and great way to clean your microwave!! I bet it makes you smile and giggle whenever you use it!! An awesome sleep for you also!! It must make you feel so good! Have fun with your scanning of the photos, it should keep you busy for a while! Wishing you the very best in the New Year also! I do not make resolutions either, but do try to remind myself to be a kinder, caring person in the year a head!

Jean - Hope you find a great spot to have dinner and watch your game tonight! A great way to spend an evening together! Hope you catch up on your genealogy stuff today! I have a few things that I need to do on Ancestry.ca soon, seems I have a few messages there that I have not looked at. Yes we are all so very lucky, aren't we!!

Felis - Hope that your work is not keeping you from other fun things!

Rae - Thanks for the link to the recipe, it sounds so good! I will have to give it a try for sure! I got lots of chocolates given to me by my one sister, REALLY???? I have been Keto for almost 4 years now WTH?? Oh well, I guess I will send them to work with my DH :mmph:

Hope that everyone has a nice relaxing weekend!

Good morning ladies. We'll be out all day visiting family and then home tonight to watch the last two episodes of The Witcher. Tomorrow afternoon we'll be at B's. Then on Monday I need to spend the day getting tax papers together. Not looking forward to that. So, the next 3 days are busy.

I will pop out in a few minutes to the bank (I get money out for the older grandkids, so much easier to let them buy their own stuff) and need a couple of Xmas gift bags that i forget to get but if nothing at the dollar store I'll just grab solid colored bags. We've got candy/chocolates for each family. I'm tempted to put the tree away so I can put my table/computer back in place to scrap upstairs but I think D would like it up for NYE so I'll probably leave it.

Trudy - yes, I get offered cookies and chocolate all the time too even tho they know I eat low carb. If anyone gives me gifts of choc or cookies I just pass them on to someone else (usually B). Hope you enjoy the brownie recipe if you try it out sometime. I find it a bit crumbly so its not as solid as a brownie but I love the flavor. J and B love it too.

Jean - your page is gorgeous. Love the photos depicting the weather you're having. We are the same, no snow, just lots of bare branches and mucky leaves on the ground.

Kay - the microwave cleaner sounds cool. I've never seen that.

I'd better get going, gotta shower and run my errands before we have to go visiting.

Have a great day everyone.

Chris - D was complaining about the storyline flipping back and forth but by the 4th episode all the storylines started to make sense and then it stopped jumping back and forth so much. We really enjoyed 4, 5 and 6 last night and now have 2 left I think to finish it, so we'll do that tonight. Then we have to figure out what series to watch tomorrow night.

good afternoon - Friday I started this post - but my DH got back from doctor and I never posted - the USA lost to Canada at the World Jrs. Good game. Funny thing is that 2 defensemen that play for Canada are NJ Devils prospects so I want them to play well but wanted USA to win LOL. Today the pros are back and my Devils are home against the Maple Leafs. My DH is going with me so that will be fun. He is at the doctor now. He called so late they had no appts yesterday. But at least he has an early appt today. Watched more of the Marvelous Mrs Maisel. That shows is so good. Other than that not much else going on. Now on to Saturday - my Devils played Toronto and lost in OT on an own goal 5-4. I looked at it as a win as the Maple Leafs have such talented players and yet my team took them to OT. Besides seeing so many goals is always fun. Scary happening as one of my player's skate blade cut the wrist of a Maple Leaf. My player was just falling and he did not even know he had done anything. As he left the ice there was a huge trail of blood. Turns out his tendons and an artery were severed. He had surgery and had to stay in NJ. Poor kid is from Russia must be so scary but I am sure that the Maple Leafs had their people there to support him. There were a lot of Maple Leafs fans in the arena. Today got out early to walk Luther with my DH - I know it is not a lot but I walked 1.3 miles and me knees were good. I will see how they feel as the day progresses. The temps here are in the 50s with sun. Crazy! My niece sent me a photo of her daughter as she gets ready to march in the Fiesta Bowl parade. Pretty cool. She is into baton twirling. I did not know they still did that. They said they are freezing! I now watching World Jrs. always fun to have day time hockey. Yesterday had lunch with my girlfriend and her daughter. Her daughter got engaged on Christmas night. Her ring is gorgeous. So fun to see her so happy!

Chris I hope you get your decorations put away. We put up so little that it is easy to take down. How fun to have a new crochet project. The yarn sounds interesting. Have you tried googling just to see if there are suggestions when using this type of yarn. Enjoy the relaxing day!

Kay what a special day with your daughter. How good that she could help pinpoint the times of the photos. Have fun scrapping. Glad you caught up on your sleep. And your microwave cleaner sounds really cool! Have fun scrapping.

Jean loved the page! Looks like my area in NJ. Brown and no snow. Have fun on web genealogy!

Trudy you are one busy lady. Sounds like such a good time and great food. I cant believe they did not speak up about the cranberry sauce. How funny! How fun to FaceTime. Bet the grands all had a great holiday.

Felis glad your holiday was festive and happy. Hope work goes well.

Have a great day all!

Been busy as can be scanning in photos. Got a lot of them done but then discovered 2 more albums that have photos I haven't scanned. Taking a break for now. It is lunch time and I forgot to get breakfast and the stomach is letting me know it is empty.

Here is a photo of the Microwave Lady. The purple and yellow one is mine - the green and purple one is for DD#1.

Chris, sounds like you do need to use a smaller hook for your project. Just be aware that it will make the project smaller. If you want it as large as the instructions indicate, you may have to add extra stitches/rows and it will take more thread. I wouldn't try to to change your normal tension as that is what you will go back to when you are not thinking about it. Yep... I tried that and ended up ripping out a bunch of stitches/row as it was uneven in areas. Changing the hook is the best way.

Jean, hope you find a nice place for dinner and to watch the game.

Trudy, good luck on exchanging the pants for the right size and finding your DH some slippers in his size. I need to get a few groceries, too... but not going out today.

Rae, don't mention taxes and papers yet!!! Yes, I have started my tax folder and only have 1 paper it in so far along with the pack from my tax preparer. I am hoping that this will be the last time I need her to do my taxes. In 2021 they might be simplified enough to having DD#3 able to do them for me.

Nancy, hope the doc figures out what is going on with DH. Have fun at the game.

Off to get some lunch and put my foot up for awhile.

Good morning and happy Sunday to the Ooos!
I feel like I need to force myself to take a nap today. Maybe if I say it out loud (type it into the ether of the www), I will be more more likely to do it. I go through this every year. Crash and crash hard. This year still isn't as bad as ones past so that is a mark in the Plus Column. :whoo:

Not too much happened yesterday. I finished up laundry, vacuumed, and the kitchen is 99% back to normal.
I decided to restart the crochet project with the smaller hook, G instead of H. I was smart and didn't rip out the first try until I compared it with the new rounds. There wasn't much difference between them so I am just keeping an eye on the sizing as I go through. It is a scallop pattern and there is lots of "give" to it so hopefully, it will be forgiving.
The kids are going to PA this afternoon so the house will be quiet for a few days. Thank goodness - maybe that will give my headache a chance to go away. Too bad they aren't taking the dogs too. They were so wound up yesterday, barking at everything. Or more accurately- at *nothing.*
Do/did your dogs every go through periods where they were hyped up over nothing? My dogs will get like that when they see suitcases and stuff like that, but this was over nothing at all.

Caitlyn Brag before I sign off. She got her grades for this semester- Straight As. Her Psych of Yoga professor emailed her saying that if he could give her an A+ for the class, he would have. She got a 100 on her final exam essay and asked for her permission to use it as an example in future classes.
Scott hasn't said anything about his final grades, no news must be good news? I know he was has a tough time on his Felid Work final. The class is divided into two groups- one for fieldwork with birds, his was trees. The final was based on the research projects from both groups and he didn't know the birds as well as the trees.
As long as he passed.... :D

Better go, J wants to go outside. xoxo

Kay- Fantastic night's sleep for you! I hope that it didn't screw you up last night but wow, that must have felt amazing. You and your DD had a great time, and I adore that vinegar lady! Where in NY did you live? Happy scanning!
Yeah, I am with you, I don't do resolutions but I do like to take stock and hope to make the new year a more positive one. I have so many things to look forward too in 2020!

Jean- aside from watching football, your day sounds like mine. Did Ohio State win?
This is my first time using a thin yarn too. Usually, I used worsted or chunky so there is a lot to grab and has some friction to hold it. What is it aside from something new to try? The bad news about using a smaller hook, it is more likely to pierce my skin when I stab myself repeatedly
Your LO is very crisp and pretty!

Trudy- will you get to stay home and relax at all today? That stinks about the gifts not being the right size. My family was very lucky that we only had one big mix up that I know of so far. I ordered a pair of boots for my mom to give Caitlyn and the box is correct, but the boots inside were wrong. Not sure if they have any more of the correct boots but the company is trying to fix it.
Can you eat pasta? I used to make stuffed shells with ham and red onion. If you can eat that, I will dig up the recipe. I haven't made it in years so I don't remember how to do it off the top of my head anymore but it is really easy. Or maybe you can use the filling with something else?
I can't imagine how happy the family is at Disney!

Rae- you must have been busy but happy seeing the family. Did you guys finish The Witcher?
Semi-spoiler alert: We finished Ep 4 last night and now I know for sure that it is time-jumping. I had a feeling in Ep 3 but didn't piece it together until 4. Should I go back and rewatch the first 3 episodes or will it make more sense as it goes on?
Do you watch Magicians? There is a "new" season on Netflix now. We finished the two seasons of Jack Ryan on Amazon. Sitcom we started is New Girl and that has me LMBO.

Nancy- OMG that is horrible about the hockey player- cut artery??? Yikes!!! How is DH feeling? It isn't as warm up here as by you but any day above freezing is a good thing for me. We have a couple of piles of snow that are still here where we shoveled but that is it.
Congrats to your friend's DD- is this the same one who goes to Panera with you both, she is a teacher IIRC? So exciting!

Kay- I really love those Micro-Ladies. So cute!
Thank you for the advice with the hook/yarn. I have ripped out rows for the same reason. I tend to do very easy projects, scarves/cowls etc and can cover up mistakes my many mistakes. This is my first "real" project that I won't be able to do that to.
Same here :lalala: Can't think about taxes yet!

Sharon- with the kids away for the next few nights, I am going to be cleaning out the fridge for dinners the next few nights so no cooking for me too! Yay! I hope LSU won too.

good morning - watching hockey and it is fun to watch the kids play. You can see the talent and at the same time you see they are kids and make mistakes. The USA plays Russia at 1pm my time. USA needs this win but Russia looks really good after their defeat of Canada yesterday. Got two pages done and need to upload so not too far behind and then I can send it off for printing. Did not go for a walk today as I am sore. My DH still is not sure what he has if he has anything besides just a cough. He had a chest x-ray and now he has to have a CAT scan. Poor guy. My son bought us dinner last night and today got us breakfast. That was pretty nice. We watched the final episodes of the Mandalorian. It was really fun. And based on the ending it looks like there will be a season 2. Also finished the Marvelous Mrs Maisel. It too makes it seem like there will be a season 4. I am loving how the people have grown and changed. The actors and the writing is terrific and I can see why it has won so much. Now I will watch the Crown. It will be so different with the new stars. And my Devils are playing the Ottawa Senators tonight so of course that is on the agenda so not sure when I will fit in LOL.

Chris so when you say you are crashing you really mean you are busy around the house. I hope you can rest some today. We have no snow left but on the walk yesterday there was still some ice on the lake. I bet the kids are so looking forward to going to PA. You enjoy the quiet and it is nice to have leftovers. Yes it is the girlfriend's, who I eat every week with, daughter.

Kay I don't do resolutions but as others have said one does look back and try to do better in the new year. I love your little microwave lady. Congrats on all the scanning. I find it so much more fun to scrap with my own photos that I would with stock.

Jean so sorry about the Ohio State losing. Looked like it was a close game. So I was sent a link to view the family tree my inlaw has created on Ancestry. How well do you think the data is protected if you have the privacy settings set to private? I am thinking about joining for a trial. He has found photos from high school yearbooks of my DH's aunts. That is amazing.

Rae have fun watching all the shows. Still seems like you are super busy! Enjoy!

Trudy sounds like you are having such a busy and fun time! All the family. Sorry you have to do some exchanges that is a bummer. But maybe you will find some bargains. Glad that they are having fun at Disney. I really don't think you can have a bad time unless the kids get over tired or the lines are too long.

Have a great day all!

Morning ladies... It is super foggy again today and most likely will be raining on and off again today. That's ok, there is fresh snow on the top of the mountains around us, so long as it stays there I will be happy!! Today will be a day of bottling white wine, doing a bit of :washing: and getting rid of all of the Junk food in our house. I gained 5lbs over the holidays and I now need to get back to eating properly again. Hoping that our son and family will have a safe journey back to Canada and that the weather will cooperate for them! They will be stopping at Heather's to spend a few days together, celebrating New Year's Eve together. I am so happy that will be happening  A few things to do behind the scenes here at the O and then I really need to get my Turtle painting finished and off to its new owner. Oh and DH wants a desk calendar for his desk at work, so I will be having to work on that too LOL.

Chris - I have been sleeping like a baby the past few nights! It is wonderful!! I hope that 2020 will be a fabulous Year for you and your family!! It sounds like it will be a good start for everyone! As for your question about Pasta... No I can not eat Pasta or anything that has a flour base to it. I do however make pasta from zucchini but not shell LOL that would be interesting to try that! My poor tummy has big time problems with any kind of grains and it seems now that even Almond Flour and Coconut Flour are a not good either! Oh well I seem to be able to survive just fine without them and I am finding that I now need less and less food to keep me feeling full. My weight is pretty consistent so this gaining 5lbs is a bit of a shock for me LOL. I have been eating chocolates (dam sister!!) . So now it is time to throw it out or give it all away and get back to normal.

Kay - I just adore those Micro-ladies!! So cute!!

Rae - I started watching the Witcher the other day and have really been enjoying it, although it is a bit brutal sometimes! Hope you had a lovely visit with B and that you got your papers together for your taxes!

Nancy - Hope your DH does not have Pneumonia! Sorry that you are feeling sore today from your walk! Hopefully a day of rest will help out! I have watched the new season of the Crown and really enjoyed it! So strange to see the new characters, but they are all very good!! One day I think I will start it from the beginning again and watch it all over, I really like it! I started watching Marvellous Mrs. Maisel but had a hard time getting into it, so perhaps I should give it another try. Wish I could convince DH to get the Disney Streaming Channel, but perhaps one day I will just download it and keep it to myself LOL. Hope you enjoy the hockey, Russia sure beat the pants off of us the other day!

Ok best get some breakfast for DH and then get the :washing: going. Have a great day everyone!

It is a late morning for me. Woke up at 3 AM with an intestinal attack and was up for a couple of hours with it. Not sure what brought it on. Crawled back into bed at 6 and slept until almost 10 AM. Feeling better now but plan on staying in PJs and vegging the day away. It is only 28 now but clear. We had some snow yesterday afternoon but it all melted.

Chris, we lived out on Long Island, NY twice.. in Amityville in 1962-63 then in West Babylon in 1986 - 87. The photos I scanned in were from the last stay there. They also included trips to Washington, DC, Boston and Plymouth, Mass and the Christmas that DS#2 and DD#3 spent with us and our trip into NYC.

I hear you about the smaller hook stabbing you... hope it is only a few times. Talking about yarn makes me want to pull out a couple of knitting projects I had planned on making. I have several stored in a large rolling tote. I knitted 'fisherman' sweaters for both DH and I. Okay...this got my curiosity aroused so I dug out the last one I was working on. It is in a very light-weight finger yarn. I got the back 3/4 done and need to switch to a different size needle to start using the knobby variegated thread for the yoke. I have the front about 1/3 done and a few inches of one of the sleeves. I usually do both sleeves at the same time - but the needles were too short to have both on it. The big challenge is to find the instructions for it as it wasn't in the bag with the project! If I find them, I may go ahead and buy another set of needles and work the second sleeve to the same point then continue working them at the same time.

Last night we were urged to go early to get in for dinner and the game, so we went early and got a parking space as a car was leaving as we arrived and there was an empty deuce in the corner, so we had a spot. The game was another story. We only made it to the half and listened to the rest on the radio at home. Neither team looked like the 2nd and 3rd ranked teams in the country and I think LSU will take care of Clemson when OSU couldn't. So now we are watching the hapless Browns take on the even worse Bengals for the last regular season NFL game. Will do a regular football watching Sunday.

Nancy, with regard to a tree at Ancestry being private: there are two settings the tree owner needs to be aware of. One is to make the tree private. But if you want it totally private, it also needs to be set as unsearchable. Otherwise Ancestry searches can find people in the tree just not the details about them. I don't think there is any such thing as private with regard to online trees as any one can post trees and probably will. Facts are facts and anything found in public records by one person can be found by all. Posting personal photos and stories is different though. Now down off my soapbox. :tape: You have lots of watching to do between hockey and shows which should be fun.

Chris, wishing you a soft crash and that the headache leaves. Quiet time with the kids in PA could help. And your approach to the crochet project seems good. After following you with the crocheted pumpkins I decided I wanted a small scarf just to keep my neck warm with a winter coat. I found a pattern I liked but used a finer yarn and wound up with a really narrow scarf, but it's what I needed and I like it, but as you say, a scarf is easy to cover mistakes.

Sharon, not having to cook is fine and congrats to LSU.

Oh, Kay, what cute little "cleaners" and clever idea. Now we'll all want one. Love hearing about all the caring family you have. Scanning all those photos will keep you in scrapping material for a long time to come. Must bring tons of great memories.

Rae, thanks for the comments on my walk photos. I know you take lots so really appreciate it. You are always so busy and get so much done. Interesting that folks still give you and Trudy inappropriate food gifts. Sometimes I think they don't understand, but other times it's mystifying.

Trudy, too bad about the sizes, but good for your FiL. Good luck with the leftovers but I have no recipes to share.

So we're almost through another year. Amazing.
