Daily Ooos: August 28-29: Weekend Edition

I am staring at the dates up there. I am finding it hard to believe that there are only a few days left of August and the summer.
So weird how I thought that 2021 was going to be better than 2020. It is in some ways. so there is that. Just not what I was expecting I guess. I do feel like it is the calm before the storm in NJ for COVID cases once the schools start in another week or so. I hope that I am completely wrong.
Speaking of storms, I am sending anti-hurricane vibes for LA and TX, Ida looks like a beast. Be safe, anyone who is in that area.

Yesterday was fine, I got a few things taken care of before I went swimming in the soupy air. That was pretty much what it felt like. The heavy rain from last week washed away most of the mulch I put down over the transplanted azalea. I built up the edge of the garden a bit and then put down more much. It is going to wash away but not as bad as it had. I needed to clip back the lilies of the valley too and while I was doing that, I made a new friend, a Snek Friend. He was so cute but I think I really annoyed him. I could tell he wasn't a garter snake because they will scoot away very quickly. This one would slither about and then turn around and stare at me. I would try to get a picture of him and he'd move a little farther, then turn around and stare.
IMG_0021.JPG
Gary and Scott both insisted he was a garter snake but I knew he wasn't on his behavior. I looked him up and he is a Northern Brown Snake. AKA DeKay's. Super cute and little if a bit aggressively "stare-y." haha!

I ended the day by watching this video:
This is the big project that Gary has been working on for a few months. It is a miniaturized arcade cabinet that he designed and the guy who's show it is, 3D-printed and built. I am so used to Gray building stuff that it didn't hit me until I watched the video how impressive this was. He's been showing me some of the progress as he had been working on it here but I don't understand how a Raspberry pi works, nor how pieces and parts fit together (Quite honestly, I didn't care how it worked, as long as he was happy doing it, I was happy)
But dang!! This was sooooooooooooooo cool!!!!! I swear, I am married to a *genius!*
OTOH, he's lucky to have me and that I put up with that genius-ness. Uh-huh. *nods*

Today is the neighbors' anniversary party - it is a wine tasting/dinner at a local Inn. The menu looks like it is a pre-set one- wine pairings with different courses and I am not going to be able to eat most of the food- mushrooms/beef/duck. Gary is going to drive because one glass of wine and I am going to be on the floor. I am planning on eating something before we leave here and maybe I should put a granola bar in my purse. My goodness, I am so classy! ROTFLMBO

Have a fun day!

Everyone was so quiet here yesterday-

Cheryl-- If I could do that-- a skull wrapped with a bath towel -how cool would it be?
You've had me thinking ever since you posted that, Chris! I have to come up with something! They probably make skull napkin rings - I could totally use those!! Thinking.......thinking......thinking.

good day - sorry I have been so absent. My youngest son hit me with I need photos by Sept 1 for the wedding montage. OMgosh that meant I had to find them (my DH put them up somewhere while I was on vacation) but I found them. I do have several scrapbooks and that meant I had to take them apart to pull out the photos I wanted. Then I had to scan and then upload to dropbox and finally import to my mac. I know many of you have been through this. It is so time consuming. But OMgosh it was so fun to see the old photos. And to see how much he changed but how much of his personality was there early. But I did learn one thing. Because it was film I was using I took pictures of the boys together and now a days I would take some solo photos. But trying to conserve film. Makes me shake my head now. My son and fiancé came down and I (yea for my iPhone) I was able to airdrop the photos while we had dinner. I have been watching the Women World IIHF championships. But in the US they are only showing the Canadian and American women's games. That is terrible. The only other stuff on the channel are repeats of men's games. The Canadian channel is doing the broadcasts so all the US has to do is show them. I think it is the pits when it is said that there is a lack of interest but how can you increase the interest when you don't show the product. Also my mornings are watching the men's Vuelta a Espana. Watching them race up mountains were the roads have a 10% gradient is crazy! I am enjoying today's weather. A cold front went through breaking the heat wave. And for a while we will be comfortable without AC. My oldest and his wife came by as they thought my town was having a street fair. They were not but we still had a nice lunch. We ate at the Greek restaurant and Oh my I love that food. It was so good.

@faerywings Chris we did not get any rain yesterday. Look there was a lot of rain north of us. Your hubby is a genius! The is amazing. I like that your snake is small. No matter what kind I am sure I would have jumped.

@tanteva Eva we made need to a clone of Gary.

@Cherylndesigns Cheryl I hope that you do not have any weather from the hurricane.

Waving to all!

Since this is the weekend edition, must be the weekend. Hard to tell. Just know it's pretty hot and agree where did August go? Not ready!! We've been watching some interesting movies from the library. We got the old Dune just because there's a new one I guess. I thought I'd forgotten the story, but really knew the movie wasn't following it in lots of ways. Decided to see other old movies and got Thelma & Louise which we never saw. Turns out to be a lot more to it than I imagined. Last night watched Irresistible, a 2020 Jon Stewart movie starring Steve Carrel. Political satire as you'd imagine. Have watched some others that were fairly good too.

Chris @faerywings WOW on what Gary's doing with the designing. DH & I watched the video as it was fascinating. Glad you found out what your cute little serpent really is. What did Scott have to say about the correct ID? Hope you have a good time and something to eat this evening. Same for Gary.

Eva @tanteva I think you'd have to adopt both of them - package deal. Still feeling like fall there? I enjoy your enthusiasm for the library work. Libraries are the best!

Nancy @nancyr you're watching some different sports there for sure. Not showing more in the US sounds like the spotty Olympic coverage. On our TV tonight the choices are NASCAR or some US soccer. Oh well, football is back, soon to be regular season. Going through all the old photos must have been some trip. The difference in how we take pictures digitally compared to film in those days is amazing.

Cheryl @Cherylndesigns looks like Chris may be a bad influence on you. Now you need skull things, next thing you know you'll be kitting out Braxton's Okie cousin.

Waving a sweaty HI!

Well, since Gary has the 3d printer, hé could make a clone! *feeling super clever*.

Weather here is like we skipped straight to October! No September in Sweden this year. :)

Good evening everybody.

Jean @scrap-genie you just made me laugh out loud. Skulls in my bathroom. Hahaha I have a feeling that Chris @faerywings and I could get in some serious trouble. I just want a Braxton now - he'd look so handsome on my front porch this Halloween. I must ask Ava if she still has hers. I keep forgetting. I'm sure it got lost in all of our moves long ago.

Funny story? I used to be deathly afraid of anything skulls/skeleton! What changed my mind was when they got popular in scrapbooking. It was many years ago, but they were SO cute! My dad was shocked that I started liking them. Actually, the Sugar Skulls are what really changed me! I found out about The Day of The Dead when I became friends with some women from Mexico. I was instantly entranced! Now, I have such a thing for all things skull! I have all kinds of sugar skull stuff. Funny how we change, isn't it?

I have an online friend who hates them! I always post my sugar skull stuff at Halloween and she shudders. LOL

Nancy @nancyr thanks so much! We're fine here.

Eva @tanteva I agree - let's make something "wicked" with that 3D printer! SO many possibilities.

I need to go and do a couple of things before I get off of here tonight. Hope everybody is having a good weekend. Chicken and dumplings for dinner tomorrow evening at our dd's. Just thought I'd throw that out there. I can hardly wait all the hours ahead to have them!! I've not had them in forever!! I'll let you all know how good they are. (insert wicked smile emoji)

Nighty night.

I am here and not hungover! Woohoo! It is kind of surprising that I am not since Gary gave me most of his wine since he was driving. I know I sure was a bit drunk LOL
The place was really neat, the party was just 8 of us and it was in the actual wine cellar. It was all bricked and the walls were lined with bottles and cases of wine.
Here is a pic from the website:
1630241735651.png
The food was really good- what I was able to eat. They asked about food allergies so I told them no mushrooms so that was one less worry. I gave all of the meat to Gary but one dish was shrimp and scallops over a phyllo crust and oh my goodness that was sooooo good! They gave us doggy bags so Gary has two pieces of filet mignon for dinner tonight. It was also nice to be out, dressed up (ish), talking to people, and being served good food and wine. Today is cloudy and cool and it might just be a good day to be a PJ day :D

Have a wonderful day. Please be safe if you are anywhere near Ida. She is close to be Cat 5as I am writing this and doesn't look like she is slowing down at all :(

@Cherylndesigns If you use any skulls in your towels/napkins you *have* to send me pics! ANd instructions so I can do some too!
Gary loves having a 3D printer. He got one about 5 years ago and every Christmas and Birthday, he upgrades pieces and parts. He prints everything from gifts to fixing a handle on the washing machine. This is another project he made:
He also made one for the neighbors last night. He took a photo of a drawing that the husband did (he is an incredible artist and had done one of his wife's face in pencil-- just amazing), put the file into the printing software, and then printed it as a lithophane. You should have seen their faces when they saw it last night!
He is active on 3D printing boards and has learned so much and figures things out on his own in that genius brain of his. He drives me batty on occasion but I am in awe of how his mind works.

@nancyr That is so much fun looking at old photos. That is a big task but so worth it!! And really- isn't that the truth about how we changed from trying to save film back then and how-- take a million shots and delete all of the bad ones. :)
Don't worry, I jumped a bit when I saw the snake at first, and then I started to talk to him.

Oh no no no. One Gary in this world is PLENTY! It is bad enough that he is just like his dad and that Scott is also just like him. Plen.Ty. ROTFLMAO!!!!!!

heheh, @scrap-genie I hear ya-- I am so relieved that I do these threads or I would never know what day it is. Even doing these threads, I struggle- as you all have seen LOL
Is Irresistible something you think I would like? I do like Jon Stewart and I miss him on the Daily Show.
OMG- I am so happy that you and DH watched Gary's video! I am really proud of him. Like I said, I am used to his puttering around, building this and that, and the kids and I tend to eye-roll a bit at him. He is like the mad scientist in the cartoons. But seeing the video and thinking about the process of how it started and how he perfected it, so impressed.
Scott was proud of me for figuring out what the snake was and not listening to him. :D

Eva @tanteva I think you'd have to adopt both of them - package deal.
See??? GMTA!!!! :D:D:D

Cheryl @Cherylndesigns looks like Chris may be a bad influence on you. Now you need skull things, next thing you know you'll be kitting out Braxton's Okie cousin.
Jean- you are killing me here!!!

Not sure if any of you saw my post on FB the other day, but it was of a skeleton watering flowers with a meme of "When the week killed you but you remember that you have plants to take care of" or something similar.
Vicki/Momma O commented that she had seen that and was going to share it with me but that I had already posted it. SO now I am thinking she is a possible bride for Braxton! Cheryl- I think that it going to be for you to do! hahahahahah!!!

@tanteva nope, no clones of Gary, No way, putting my foot right down!!! One Gary=plenty.

@Cherylndesigns this is just way too funny!! The whole thread here is cracking me up!
You and Ava should get that skeleton of hers dressed up, but why wait for Halloween?? *G*
Really, you were scared of skeletons? Whew, I am so glad you aren't anymore, my posts would make you miserable.
Did you see Coco from Disney? You would love that!
Here is the photo that I shared on FB

Enjoy your dumplings!

Yesterday was a bad/good day... realized in the morning that I was having side effects from the muscle relaxer meds that were getting much worse. Was having tingling on face and extremities plus dizziness that almost caused a few falls. Thank goodness I was able to catch myself every time. And the muscle spasm relief was only lasting a few hours instead of 8 hours. Also think it was causing the BP meds strength to increase which was causing low BP. Didn't take the evening dose or this morning dose and the tingling and dizziness is almost gone this AM - but the spasms were there when I woke up. Will be letting my primary care doc know about all this tomorrow. Will suggest that she put me on Flexrell as I have had success with it in the past. In the meantime - won't be driving/going anywhere until I am sure the dizziness is gone. So will be back to using the massager unit to ease the spasms. Sister will be tomorrow afternoon for a week's visit. Looking forward to it.

Trying to limit my screen time today, cuz I was sittin here so much yesterday, my eyes got seriously tired. Been reading instead, pretending that my eyes gets rest then. LOL

Almost finished my book, and probably will tonight. It's a "nice" little novel ... like a proper splatter movie in book version. He's one of my favorite authors, and this book is quite good. It's new, so I don't think it's translated to English yet, but if you like horror stories, try this book:

(WHY on earth do they need such long urls???)

It's sooo good, I think I need to re-read it.

Same! It's not like I don't have time for O, I miss you all and often think for all of you here. I wish to think that if this was physical meeting I'll come every day. But I really have to limit my screen time, because my eyes are so tired after work in double shifts most of the time on lamp, staring at stitches, and my addiction to the IG. At the end of the day I'm physically not able to spend 1 hour in reading/writing on the computer.

My August was so wonderful, in totally opposite to the previous year, this one is marvelous! My sister is here for one month and we do something different every weekend. Soon I'll come back to share.
Cheryl, I can't remember did you saw on IG my photo from the sea? For the others girl, just to mention, tada, I was able to spend a weekend on the beach previous weekend. And it was so lovely.
And today we visited sale on HP merch, but I'm disappointed . Was able to get only one Gryffindor blouse.

Wave to all! Please, excuse me that I'm not been able to read any posts this month!
Chris, your new friend/pet is so cool! Eva, here also starts to looks like autumn and getting dark early.

Kisses and hugs to all! Enjoy the summer!:cool:

Hot, humid, and raining here, but just the normal stuff.

Chris @faerywings love the bride of Braxton! She looks really cute and so thoughtful. ;) As to Irresistible, like may be the wrong word but I do think you'd appreciate it. We got it on DVD from the library. Knew you'd understand about days of the week. Somehow last night tried to morph into Sunday night but glad it was still Saturday.

Eva @tanteva Congrats on the gallery pick! Looks great but especially love the cat in the covers. (Love the pictures you posted of dog person and cat person!) Sorry for the tired eyes and I do think there's a difference between screen viewing and a print book.

Cheryl @Cherylndesigns Quite the story about being freaked out by skulls to embracing the concept. Day of the Dead does give such a different perspective.

Kay @BrightEyes hope things are clearing up. Scary reaction and even worse not the best result for the spasms. Take care!

Felis @felis Thanks for stopping by. So pleased you've had such a good month!!

Hope everyone can stay safe and well.

@felis Best thing I've ever done was quitting social media. Facebook was easy to quit, Instagram was much harder. Still miss some of my "friends" there, but it's not real friendship, is it? I have so much time now to waste on other things now. LOL

@scrap-genie You are right, much easier for the eye to read a book, than read on a screen. I think that's why I never really gotten into reading e-books. It's no way near as relaxing as sinking into a "real" book. I have a good e-reader (with no light in the actual screen, so you have to have reading light), but it's just not the same.

Thinking of the Day of the Dead and skeletons, I want to share a photo from years ago. I did a little ofrenda when a birding friend had died. The skeletons were what was meant as a Halloween card. I keep it and sometimes put it out at Halloween. Good thing we're all into skeleton images. :D

Hi all!! LOVE the pictures of skulls/skeletons @scrap-genie Jean and @tanteva Eva! Eva that looks like some of mine.

I think the "staying away from the screen" must be contagious. I've had a really bad couple of days - very emotional over what's happening in the world and I decided to try to insulate myself a bit today.

Thanks, girls, for the comic relief about the skeletons/skulls.

We're getting ready to go to Adrienne's for dinner, so I'll check back for more personals when we get home.
