*grumbles in Old Man*

I dropped my cellphone the other day. *grumbles some more* Cracked the screen. I guess it could've been worse because I can still use it fine for the moment. But I know it isn't going to last forever, it is already ancient by tech standards- 5 years old. I always got the free upgrade phones through my carrier and they don't do that anymore so now I am researching different phones which is like talking to me in a different language.

Can you tell me about the phone that you have? I don't want lots of bells and whistles, the most important thing is the price. After that, I would like a decent camera and battery. Definitely can't afford a new model and not an iPhone either.
Currently, I am looking at older models- Samsung Galaxy 10, Motorola One, and Google Pixel 3a. I have been reading TomsGuide.com and some other review sites but processors, RAM-- that all means nothing to me and even the "cheap" models on review sites are out of my budget. ( I guuuuuesssss $500 is cheap compared to the $1000+ of new ones, but sheesh!)

I am aggravated at myself too- I had been thinking of a new phone for a while and now I can't trade this one in with a cracked screen.
*insert more Old Man grumblings*

Thank you all for helping!

When my BIL wakes up my sister is gonna see if he likes his Moto G Stylus. It's significantly less than $500. I would not get the Pixel 3a as it is EOL for updates.

Okay, I'm back after looking at the software available for the S10 as it'll have a good camera. It is upgradeable to the latest version of the Samsung One UI which gets you Android 12. I have had several Samsung phones and have always been happy. I'm currently using the S21 Ultra with the same software the S10 can get.

I love phone tech so I can get really obsessed over this topic. Also who is your provider that can impact phone options.

Thank you, Cindy!
Really good to know that the Pixel 3 is out of software updates. *crosses that off of the list*

My DD has an S10, and Gary and I have S8s. She likes her S10. She previously had an LG and she loves the camera on that but after that one died, she couldn't get another. We have had a lot of Samsungs too and have usually been pretty happy. Scott had to downgrade to one of the clunky A series ones and he isn't thrilled with it but what can you do? It is a basic phone and he can call and text.

Gary suggested the Motorola as a less expensive option.

Really appreciate your input- you were a big help when I had to get a computer last year :)

ETA: We had Sprint but just went through the T-Mobile merger.

I had a Huawei ... crap.

Now I have a Samsung Galaxy A12, and I love it. Though after the other phone, I guess an old telephone from 1932 would be good. LOL

I always get the one that is cheapest, cuz I'm really not using my phone for much. I play games, I read the news, I snap with friends & take photos. (Calling??? Are you crazy???!)

Like the photos on my phone, they get really crisp and nice. Here's a photo:

Actually - the camera is too good, you can really see all the cat hair on the doily. LOL
(Mårten just HAS to be in the front row when we are having dinner. Spoiled? Nah, I don't think so LOL)

As long as you avoid any telephone with a fruit on, you're good. ;)

I am an iPhone gal, but know that they can be way too expensive!! My son and daughter recently changed from iPhone to Samsung Galaxy and they both really like them, so much less expensive too!

I have the Galaxy S10, I'm an Android girl too. I've had it for 3 years now, so not sure what the price point currently is. I chose that model at the time because the camera was highly rated.

My BIL has this version of the Moto Stylus G and he says he likes it. He said he would recommend it.

ETA I helped my sister find this phone so I know it had good reviews. It's a 2020 version and I know the newer versions are also reasonably priced (for a phone).

I LOVE my iPhone 11PRO!!! It has 3 different cameras on it! There's a new iPhone 12 Pro, but I don't think it's any better than mine. Ava has a newer phone than mine, but she says my camera(s) are way better than hers!! My phone isn't very big, either.

I am interested in this one, the camera and battery life are my top two concerns, do you know if he is happy with them? Thanks so much, Cindy!!

The Galaxy A32 5G might be a second choice...

Nope, never mind, this is the one Scott has and he is not happy with it.

I will check and let you know. (Although I don't know how much he actually uses the camera.)

One last thing, (sorry for being a pain in the butt although I *know* you will understand this part LOL)
The size is a concern too- a review said this:
With the exception of the camera module and the fingerprint sensor, the G Stylus 5G looks just like the G Stylus. At 6.7 by 3.1 by 0.4 inches (HWD) and 7.5 ounces, it’s a big phone. People with small hands will likely find it a handful.

The phone I have now is much smaller and it is hard to use with just one hand

@faerywings Well my BIL will not be much help with size. He is 6'4". No phone is big to him. lol I long ago gave up on having a phone I can use one handed. My phone is actually slightly bigger than the Moto G Stylus and I think the larger screen is worth the price of not using it one handed. I would never go back to a smaller phone. (My sister is the opposite. It's why she uses the iPhone SE. It's a smaller phone.)

My BIL says the battery life is good. He doesn't really have an opinion on the camera. It takes pictures and that is all he cares about. *shudder* But from what I saw online, it seems to have a good camera.

I have a moto g5 plus that is over 4 years old - it is jsut about dying. when i bought it , it was considered be one of the best budget phones. i have heard though that the moto g line has gone down hill.

I have glanced at future phones to get as my next one i want a better one but no way can i afford 1000 phone. One phone that as drawn my interset is the pixel 5 a as has best camera for a $450 phone the pixel 6a should be out in next month or 2 so definitely want to see price and features for that one. you mentioned pixel 3 a - if you can get real cheap and dont know if there will be any operating system updates on it given its age.

ah.. I use a phone for a phone and necessary calls only. My phone is a flip style with no web connection. Costs me a whole $20 bucks a month. If I want pictures, I use my good camera. Call me old fashioned but I just don't want my life on my phone.
