Oscraps

Book challenge for 2026

Mistress of Mayhem
It's the time of the year when the reading challenges start appearing. Since I don't have social media any more, I will miss all the ones shared there. Hence I decided to make one for myself. Sharing my list here, maybe you want to join me?

The list is quite versatile and easy to follow, and interpretations are very welcome. Since we are an international group, you can translate the words to you own language, and pick books that match. Also you can use plural, adjectives etc of the word (like in January e g. You could use winters, winterly, midwinter and so on). And in March, it could be a book written by an author from an African country, a book with Africa in the title, or why not a book with facts about an African country? Speaking of being an international group: those of you "down under", you can switch places between January and June if you prefer. Interpret every clue the way you want. I will not tell you it's wrong.

I will not chose my books in advance, just next months book, in time to get it from the library in time to read it.

Read paper back, hardcover, audio book, fact, fiction, children's book, fantasy, romance, whatever. Join in every month, or just a few.

And if you join me: please tell me what book you've chosen and also if you liked it or not. Just DON'T TELL ANY SPOILERS! You might inspire someone to pick up the same book.

I read a lot but mostly just mysteries and genealogy texts. Oscraps is basically my form of social media, so I only am seeing challenges here. Eva, your challenge sounds like something interesting and actually a nice challenge. I'll at least try. Thanks!

I've just picked the one for November: big surprise, it's a genealogical mystery!

This sounds an interesting challenge. I may not take part each month as I already take part in a Book Club and am a slow reader at times.
@melscrap Thank you for the recommendation of Winter Garden. It sounds an interesting book so I just bought it for my Kindle.

My January book will be Trollvinter by Tove Jansson. The English title for this book is Moominland Midwinter.

I'm trying to read a lot of books I "should have read already", and this is one of those. It's a children's book, but Tove Jansson is very deep at times. Really looking forward to this.
