It’s time for another challenge from Anna Aspnes. The AnnaTeam selects one creative page from the Anna gallery as the ‘AnnaLift.’ Be inspired, create your own ‘AnnaLift,’ upload your page to the Anna gallery and include it here in this forum thread. Upload your page by Friday 06.12.20 by 8:00 pm EST with the title, ‘AnnaLift. ’ One lucky participant will be randomly selected to win a $5.00 GiftKard to Anna’s shop.

HOW IT WORKS: Each Saturday the AnnaTeam posts one creative page from the Anna gallery as the ‘AnnaLift.’ Check out the inspiration page and decide what speaks to you. Is it the design, the color, the wordART, or maybe the photo? Then enjoy artfully playing—there is no right or wrong way to ArtPlay.

Choose ONE idea to lift or choose it ALL and lift it completely. Be inspired, create your ‘AnnaLift’ and then upload your page to the Anna gallery, plus include it here in this forum thread. It would be great if you could link back to your page in the gallery too!

Anna’s products mix well with so many kits/designers and Anna welcomes you to include these with your Anna Products on your AnnaLift page.

helenedubois shares her creative vision of social isolation. helenedubois has isolated each figure. The repetition of the figures creates tension as each reacts to their separation. Some figures push and rebel against the boundary of their walls. Other figures recline and stare at the viewer. The neutral color scheme contains layers of warm orange and translucent beige color for depth. Soft touches of complementary blue add impact. Key text leads the eye in a graceful script that coordinates perfectly with the frames of nervous lines. Further contrasts are visible in the patterns of vertical and horizontal lines. Broken threads bind and release in redemption. helenedubois has interpreted in social isolationism in a design that is hauntingly beautiful.

IDEAS TO INSPIRE: Use ONE or MORE of the following in your AnnaLift layout.



  • Illustrate a sequence of activities or capture your emotions.
  • Experiment with a neutral color scheme. Find subtle complementary colors.
  • Use Multiple Images or key phrases to give your design movement.
  • Use transfers, stains and splatters to paint your image.
  • Add a variety of elements like frames, stitchez, artsy strokes, or branches to contain your images.

I lifted the color scheme, pandemic story, and use of stitches.

I only have one photo but worked with neutral colors and segments in green. Threads, spatter and brushes bound the photo and text.

A brain dump of May 2020. Thinking about this and reading to support my journaling makes me quite anxious. Now I need to go out to my garden and practice some yoga to recenter myself. There's a lot of journaling here, most notable my clear witnessing of the Newark racial riots of 1967, more than 50 years ago.
