Taking a screenshot used to be SO easy. It's a royal PAIN now! Am I the only one who has issues with this? I do lots of screenshots, though - maybe others don't. I think it's a transition from Windows 10 to Windows 11. They're just trying to help. :floorlaugh: :floorlaugh: :floorlaugh:

I use SnagIt for all of my screen captures and have done so for about the last 10 years, lol! Perhaps take a look at some other little free programs you can use? Hope you get it worked out!
I haven't heard of Snagit either. It used to be SO easy - I just hit print screen and it saved to one of my document files. :banghead:

It is still the same in Windows 11 - hit print screen... and now you have the option of choosing if you want the whole screen or just a part... and the image will go to a default folder (you can change the destination folder if you want)...

or am I missing something?

Now, I have to use a crop tool to get what I want to save, then it goes to this page that looks like a word document page and half the time, it doesn't even work right. It just started happening after the last update. What's really aggravating is that if I accidently touch the print screen key, it grays my screen out and goes to that word document looking page. Hope that makes sense.

Hitting the print screen key seems to activate the Snipping Tool in 11. I use the Snipping Tool all the time for screen shots, even when I had Windows 10. I never used the print screen key. I used to use the shortcut Shift-Windows key-S to activate it, but hitting the print screen key is faster. Maybe that's what changed, because the Snipping Tool was always there.

I didn't know about the snipping tool until my other method stopped working. I'll get used to it eventually. I just don't like change. Thanks, Angie!

Having just moved from Windows 10 to 11 in the last few months, I can totally sympathize! I remember what a huge leap it was to go from 8 to 10, which was my last big move!

the graying part does make sense, but the word-looking document does not... hmm... my computer does exactly what is described here

if you don't like the default location of your screenshots, you can change it following these steps.

This is SO helpful, Olga! Thanks so much. Apparently, I need to change some of my settings, because mine isn't this easy. I'm so glad I posted this.

:) glad to help! In fairness though, when I started needing screenshots, I had to google how to do that in the most pain-free way :) so no, you are not the only one trying to make sense of all these settings and options :)

It’s super easy on my Mac. I’m so sorry MS made it so difficult on the update. Sounds super frustrating!!!!!! I’d be going nuts too!

Yes, that was why I wanted a Mac, but it just didn't work out for me. MS is a PITA and there's nothing you can do about it. Windows 10 is going away, so we better all get used to it. I know some people have really struggled with 11 and some don't seem to as much. I don't like change very much, especially on my computer.

Melissa just got a PC and she has been having a tough time with 11 as well. :(

I don't have the latest OS on my Mac for some of the same reasons. They changed it so much and it's not as intuitive as it usually is!!
Well, I did figure out a way to block 11 from downloading, but you can't do that forever or your computer is not up to date. When our IT guy came out the last time, he told me that 10 was going away in about a year, that MS wasn't going to support it after that. At least, they got that folder issue fixed. Remember when 11 first came out, none of the folders were open with any kind of a preview? They must have gotten a lot of grief over that, because that isn't the case anymore, at least I haven't noticed it. That was driving people crazy.

I use the snipping tool, too. Used to do tons of screen shots when I was writing my SOP before I retired. Four books worth of instructions - a dummies' guide!
