Our owl trips to Amherst Island in 1979 were amazing and we've never forgotten the special feel of going through the woods and roads finding the owls, particularly Great Gray and this intense-gazed Northern Hawk Owl. Hard to believe it was so long ago.
This was possibly our most memorable birding event in the month of August. We learned of the presence of the Wood Storks while in Kentucky and got to see them in southern Ohio by detouring from our usual route home. It was so special.
DH gave me this orchid in Feb. 2019 and cares for it such that it blooms every year though not always at the same time each year. This year it was a little later with only three blooms, but it is always a joy.
I have this exhibit in mind as next month I'm putting a piece in the current members' exhibit. And Monday I'm taking two pieces to a juried exhibit that I got into last year. So, art shows are on my mind.
We didn't do much in 2022 so putting a piece in the members' exhibit of a local arts group may have been my highlight of the year. This is one of my mixed media collage pieces called "Surrounding".
I used trees as symbols of the natural world, the plants, animals, weather, and all. Also for family trees and the connections to family now and past and to others finding their way through the trees.
