By midweek we had talked to several people who noticed there were so many fewer birds this year, but then one local said the birds were finally arriving at his feeders after a very slow summer. In two weeks it would be fall, and climate change and global warming were on people's minds.
The blue-throated mountaingem was very territorial and a bully, and drove all the other hummingbirds away from Reed's place. We had always been thrilled to see one, and now they're no longer special for us but still pretty.
Wow, cool! I'm not likely to see it in NoColo, but the tube has 11 minutes and it's easy to find for people like me. Just seeing the video inspires me to create something with some sunflowers and lots of color too.
Tuesday morning was beautiful and we didn't have to go far for photos of the blue-throated mountaingem. Later, we went to Jasper's place and out to the store on the NM side to get another look at the yellow bird of paradise flowers. The pond was on our walk back to our apartment.
It was in the 90s by noon when we got to Cave Creek Ranch, and we stayed cool in our apartment until later in the day. When you did get out, you got some great photos of the Bbue-throated mountaingem and learned that he had claimed the big pine tree close to the office as his territory.
We were at about the same elevation as at home and temperatures were about the same, too. It got up near 90 a few times, but we were in A/C long before the sun heated things up anyway. I wore shorts one afternoon and a long sleeve or sweater in the mornings.
