We called ahead to Portal Store and they baked us some peach cobblers, which we picked up on Tuesday after our visit to Dave Jasper's feeders. There were several kinds of hummingbirds, and more of them than we'd seen in the last few years. I loved his mass planting of penstemons most.
Reed told us that record flooding in eastern Arizona we read about in the news hadn't done any damage but was very scary and much worse than anything he'd ever seen on his property. The water lily in his pond was covered with debris, so I used an older photo for an art page.
Labor Day weekend again was a great time to be on the road because traffic was very light. We stopped close to the Arizona border at my favorite spot and I took the first photos with my brand new camera. It was very hot. So by the time we got to Cave Creek Ranch I was all in.
