2023-02 Rachel Jefferies February 2023 Mixed Media Challenge****WINNER ANNOUNCED****

The details are all on my gallery page, but I can add here, that I used one paper behind and RightNow-pp02 to create the frame on the right and as a texture overlay for the photo. The nature stamps are upper left and the bird, and messy marks date. Once I was sure I had all the parts of the...

RJ Feb MM Chall: Oh Yes, and the Magpies

On Tuesday it was again very cold. We drove by the elk but they were laid down. In December we saw only one, so it was still a thrill to see dozens, and I always love a full moon. It was beautiful just before sunrise, with the western horizon painted a little bit red and so much bright contrast.

February Challenge #6 - Color Play

This is where I live, in my same county anyway, about 30 miles from Rocky Mountain National Park. Thanks for my fave challenge. Everything is ColorPlay I think, and doesn't that mean it's good to recolor stuff? I had fun. :D
  4. Challenge #6: The Morning Was Amazing

Challenge #6: The Morning Was Amazing

Jamie was delighted with the art I created from her "Kissing Booth," and we told her how we were on and off the mountain in 40 minutes, having seen the elk again and a beautiful sunrise. To my surprise, both of my favorite sunrise photos were very similar to ones for sale online.

***CLOSED*** February Challenge #7 - Quote to Word Art

Thanks for the challenge, Vicky. When I walked into the restaurant this morning after our trip to RMNP, I knew just what February is...;)
  6. Challenge #7: February Is

    Challenge #7: February Is

We were lucky to see dozens of elk in the valley at sunrise, but the wind chill was below zero. My fingers froze and tiny icicles were driving into my skin. At Notchtop, they put us in the "Kissing Booth." I added the view with Fall River just outside the window like it is at our cabin.

February Challenge #4 - Big Photo

It said I could use a rectangle, and didn't say I couldn't use a frame. (And I made sure it didn't touch the soft rectangle shape). ;)
  8. Challenge #4: Deer Ridge Junction

    Challenge #4: Deer Ridge Junction

Notchtop in Estes was packed but the manager recognized us from our visit in December. When asked, I said our day would just be acclimating to RMNP. She gave me sparkling water to go, explaining why it might work. We turned around at Deer Ridge Junction & I was tired but OK.

    February Challenge #5 - Template

I wanted the page flow to match and explain the template with its downward motion, so I used the arrows and it happened they worked only if I changed the decors to a highway sign which was off the photo's cropped edge on the right. US Hwy 24 out of Woodland Park is a fun "drive" on Google maps...
  10. Challenge #5: Into the Sun

    Challenge #5: Into the Sun

As we left Woodland Park on Friday, we'd again be driving into the full sunrise and that's not fun, except maybe for the photographer. And even then, only if the windshield would stay clean. But the pros of staying there were outweighing the cons by quite a bit, since I did better at that altitude.

    February Challenge #3 - Heritage

I think my writing explains why I picked the photo from ten years ago, but if needed I can of course say more. I just got a Rx for oxygen, and hopefully that will make it possible for us to go back to this beloved spot again.
  12. Challenge #3: Imogene Pass

    Challenge #3: Imogene Pass

I sent this postcard to my dad in August of 2013 and it was in the box of memorabilia nobody else in the family wanted. In the ten years since I sent it, my dad couldn't keep going and that Jeep didn't either. And we wondered if we'd return to Imogene Pass with my oxygen prescription.

Very cute. I do think photos help children keep memories far longer than they otherwise will.

February Challenge #2 - Mood Board ***CLOSED***

Thanks for the challenge, Sylvia. There were several images in your set that reminded me of the big city tall brick buildings, #1, #4 & #6. Then I saw the typesetting tray #11 and thought of old and steampunk, which I'd seen on our visit to Denver. Maybe a stretch, but I used stitches to emulate...
  15. Challenge #2 Mile High Station

    Challenge #2 Mile High Station

On Friday we got to Meow Wolf an hour early and found a coffee shop in one of the big old brick buildings in the area. It was beautifully refurbished with a bit of a steampunk vibe. I thought about the city dwelling photographers that take photo walks to enjoy the architecture.

February Challenge #1 - Artist Inspiration

Love this challenge! You didn't say anything about sizes... (hope it's OK :D )
  17. Challenge #1: My Hungry Bunnies

    Challenge #1: My Hungry Bunnies

We had record low temperatures and extreme cold (-8º F) at the end of January and the beginning of February. I would stand on our front step in my sock feet and toss out treats for the bunnies, talking all the while. They came and dug through snow for food, & then more were coming.

    AnnaLift Challenge 01.27.23 - 02.10.23

Thank you Nancy for the challenge. I was very challenged and this was my third go at something I'd be good with. Thankfully no frustrations had set in even at that point. I must remember to not go for extractions, mostly. The title isn't big but I was committed by the time I re-read your list. :D
