You have to look closely and be still, watching for movement, to see these residents of the forest. They are seldom seen while they are watching us. ;)

On Tuesday I knew before we left the hotel that it was going to be a great sunrise. We left around 5am and it did not disappoint us. We love this spot on the trail, where we look east at the sun and west at the wetlands bathed in golden light and mountains farther west. A bonus is a blackbird...

It was a hard choice to decide whether to let the night heron stay where he was or see the beautiful sunrise reflection on the water. He let me get closer than we thought he would but he flew when I got about ten feet away. At the end of the trail, the hawk also had his limits for us to learn.

If you know me you know it took no time at all for me to love Claire's red vintage truck. :D And the framing and blending here are superb to make the trees and the truck pop off the page.

This page is for August 25 and will probably say we got up at dark thirty and drove to RMNP for sunrise photo, because that's pretty much our tradition. But for now the journal section is blank. He loves my fractals and on the right the leaves and paper are hand painted with one of my fractals
