There were maybe 150 cranes on the far lake on Wednesday, and just us. It was 32 degrees and cloudy but felt colder than that. The sunrise was no more than a red sliver that went into clouds. It was low light and the birds all took off very soon after we arrived but before sunrise.
Thank you for the challenge. :)

I liked the colors and the cluster placed centrally on both of these pages. I started out to use Anna's frame, but had to give it up to get the balance I needed. Still, inspired to use Anna's...
It rained a lot overnight, so there was fog. I loved seeing it dance in the jeep headlights and on the lake. And the ducks didn't seem to know we were there. In better weather, they leave the area before we come to a full stop . We could hear a few cranes but of course couldn't see them with the...
So beautiful! I love the colors and how you placed the flowers on top of the photo, so I'm lifting your page for one of the challenges. Coming soon & thankyouverymuch. ;)
On our second trip around the loop, I wanted to watch the blackbirds on the cattails. I commented that I thought I'd remember that moment for a long time. It was the first time I had ever tried to take photos of birds in the fog. I felt like I was exploring a completely foreign world.
On Monday at MVNWR we saw a few groups of sandhill cranes, but much more of our story was the weather mix. There was a just past full moon showing in an out of clouds, and lightning. When the sun popped up, we got to see a strong double rainbow span the entire sky before us.
Thank you for this inspiration! I surprised myself with this one. The part of the far left, I hope you can use your imagination to crop it off, but if needed I'll redo it. ;)
I didn't have my camera ready for all the beautiful fall color when we headed over La Veta Pass. It took a while before I decided to capture "something" knowing I'd already missed the best. You were surprised too, remembering we hit awful weather there on this weekend in 2022.
As we gazed into the future that would be the first of October, it looked like it might be crazy busy and maybe a little bit spooky. We knew with a shutdown, they might close the gates at the refuge after we drove five hours. But at the last minute the fiasco was averted. Lots was going on.
It's not too early to be thinking about Halloween. Two of my BFFs have already sent me cards and a gift, and I needed to make something to send back to them, so I made this page today.
This was fun and I just wanted to share and inspire others to try Viva's Frida kit before it's gone from her retiring products sale. The quotes are excellent and sometimes it's good to just try new things. Happy Birthday to ViVa and thank you for these gifts. I loaded up on her $1 & $2 sale!
Without clouds in front of the sunrise it wasn't as interesting, but golden hour was stronger and it warmed up faster. You alerted me to the otter and I was ready. He stayed at the surface for only a few seconds, and we waited a long time but he didn't come up again.
The grass that formed a delicate fog-like cloud above the ground was muhly grass. It formed an almost white mist, but in a close-up I could see how it was called pink muhly grass. It intrigued me and I would look for it again in October, to learn more and watch it change.
