So what version are you on? If you go to the Help menu and then click on the About Photoshop option it will tell you what version you are on - if your program upgrades automatically it could well be the reason it is now located there. I am on 25.5.1 so maybe I am still on the older one...

When you open PS with that ticked it opens on the main page of PSCC and all the advertising blah blah blah, I just like to go straight to the software itself and open a psd file and start scrapping! lol!

Just drag over your image first (and or text) to highlight first then click on the adjustment option and select the center one:

Maybe try closing the program right down and opening it again? it's strange that is should just disappear like that.
