Photobooks v photo albums

Photo albums are great! I wish I had a stack of them to pour over when I was a kid. I am lucky that my Dad took a lot of photos, but there were all on slides that we only saw on 'slide nights' once or twice a year!

I have traditional photo albums for my girls alongside their many, many photobooks but now I only do a monthly summary. Every five years I print the pages as a thick photobook.

Here's one side of June's spread:

Do you have traditional albums of photos or just photobooks (or maybe you don't print photos at all?).

I'd love to know!

Why I love photobooks for travel ....

One thing I love about having photobooks of our adventures, rather than just albums, is that you can tell the whole story.

For example, I am so lucky that we were able to do a home exchange with a very basic home on a Greek Island.

Because it was a short hop from Mykonos, we took the short ferry ride for a day trip. It was a short journey to a world apart. Mykonos was beautiful, frantic, photo-op heavy and exhausting.

As I say in my journalling, ‘While being very aware WE were part of the problem’, we were very relieved to be out of the crush of cruise shop passengers and back on our quiet island.

And, yes, we got some of the classic hits of Mykonos photos - and you will recognise one that is also on my June summary page! - but on the same pages I was able to include ones (like that on the top right of the first set) that showed more of the reality, plus our silly selfies for the family whatsapp, and one of The Husband choosing to wander along the beach looking for seaglass, along with my journalling of our reaction and thoughts.

(NB The Husband is getting great at the photos, but sometimes I do still find myself eating my meal with half a head)

I've been using my Lots of Pockets Threaded Photobook templates (along with Red Letter Dates) to document the trip, and am really enjoying the process :)

They come in 12 x 12 as well as 8.5 x 11, by the way

And what a treasure the books and your thoughts will be for them :-)

I take a LOT of photos and keep a lot too. You never know what will work perfectly on your photobook page!

PS don't worry about your glasses LOL - for some reason the templates ended up way back in my store when I uploaded them even though they are brand new

The templates are beautiful! I'm pretty sure they need to come home with me! I love photo collage templates that use lots of photos.

I am a photobook girl. From 2012 forward everything is in a photobook. I do three a year plus extras for vacations. Book one is Jan-April, book two May to August, Book three Sept to Dec. Then I also do extra books for vacations. There is one for our cruise this year, all on its own. Each of the "year" books is approx. 90-100 pages long. Special books are 25+ pages. I write, I photo dump, I chronologically order everything. Each book is divided by months. I use to try and jam it all in one book but it didn't work for what I wanted. If I take 100 photos per event then I think 75 should end up in my book. I just created 4 pages for a 4 hour trip we took for school :giggle4: I used one of Taylors templates that allows you to use about 50 photos at a time LOL I have tons of photos and slides I inherited from my grandparents and I have NO idea who is in them or what is happening in most of them. I dont want to leave that for my kids. I scrap with the thought that some day I wont be here to tell my great grands what's happening so I document it now. In my mind, I am working on the pre-2012 books but so far other then special events they haven't happened. I did create a book of my grandparents 40th anniversary as I knew that event (I was there LOL) I've created senior books for each kid that includes all their senior photos so they dont get lost, and all the graduation photos.
