White Dove

One of the new brushes in the Southwestern No. 1 brush set resembled the "White Dove of the Desert," an early Spanish mission near Tucson, Arizona. Since I spent 15 years in Tucson, I had to play with this.

More info, if you're interested:
In the Spring of 1687, a Jesuit missionary named Father Eusebio Francisco Kino lived and worked with the native Americans in the area called the Pimera Alta, or "Upper Pima Country," which presently is located in the areas between the Mexican state of Sonora and the state of Arizona in the United States. During Father Eusebio Kino's stay in the Pimera Alta, he founded over twenty missions in eight mission districts. Father Kino founded missions San Xavier and San Gabriel at the Piman communities of Bac and Guevavi along the Santa Cruz River. Mission San Xavier del Bac, also know as the White Dove of the Dessert" is a historic Spanish Catholic mission located about 10 miles south of downtown Tucson, Arizona.

Process notes:
This was a rather simple process of using a brush as the focal element and then accenting it and adding dimension. I opened a solid paper from ArtPlay Palette Hygge and brushed No. 6 from the new brushset, Southwestern No. 1, centering it on the page. I placed transfers No. 1, 2 and 6 beneath the large stamp, varying their blend mode and opacity. (Normal and lighten) I blended-in some areas by using a mask. I brushed in a few clouds and added an overlay recolored white. And my visit to the White Dove was over.

Thanks for looking.
I have fallen in love with "no color". How beautiful and how captivating the story.

What a beautiful meeting of an architectural brush and your personal experience! The gray scale really allows the building's details to shine! Thanks for the history too...would love to see it some day.

Beautiful building, very cool presentation! Father Kino sounds like the Father Serra of California. You can till see Father Serra's beautiful missions up and down the coast of California.

love the aART with just the brushes and blending! gorgeous page! I have only seen from the outside when in Tuscan and it a lovely mission.

Beautiful! I really like how the building just appears out of your clouded background. Stunning!

Beautiful! This is exactly how I see the missions. Love the softness against the stark architecture.
