When In Rome

If you can't go on a Roman adventure, the next best thing is having a friend who shares photos of hers. Anna's new Old World Brushes were perfect to use with this photo of a famous sculpture in Rome.

The Capitoline Wolf is a bronze sculpture of the mythical she-wolf suckling the twins, Romulus and Remus, from the legend of the founding of Rome.

Process notes:
I selected ArtsyPaper No. 1 from ArtPlay Palette Moorlands, duplicated it and set the blending mode to darken. I placed my photo and used Multilayered FotoBlenz No. 3 as a mask. I enlarged the photo and mask to fill two-thirds of the page. Because my photo didnt include the base of the statue, I added the column brush from the New Old World Brushes No. 1. I wanted to mimic a charcoal sketch look to blend the photo with the brush, so I kept playing with PhotoShop filters until I found one I liked. I duplicated the masked photo four times, used fresco as the filter in varied blend modes and opacity (exclusion, luminosity, pin light and normal}. Because the wolf was too dark, I added a mask to the last duplicate and removed some. The background seemed to need something, so I added a line brush in a reduced opacity for additional texture. And since the statue is in Rome, I created wordArt using the phrase when in Rome and VacationWordArt No. 1. To finish the design, I used the spot healing brush to blend in a few stark lines and remove those stray pixels. As they say in Rome, finito!

Thanks for looking!
Brilliant use of the column brush and until I read your script it wasn't apparent this was not part of the original. Wonderful page.

I so want to visit Rome and so many other places too LOL. This is the perfect way to use Anna's new brushes!
