What a wonderful story! I, too, am an empty nester as it applies to both humans and 4-legged children. I do have 2 budgies who live with me. Unfortunately my HOA doesn't allow outdoor bird feeders, which I miss so much. Your photo is amazing, and your layout is so clean and classy. Standing O for you!
Aww, that is so sweet that they interact with you!! I love watching our birds on the feeders, expecially when the woodpeckers show up! We had a breeding pair of Red-Bellied Woodpeckers the year before last and the juvenile was SO cute! We also have cute little Hairy Woodpeckers and the Downy Woodpeckers...and a few years ago we had a huge Pileated Woodpecker show up twice to tear through one of the stumps in our backyard
