When I was an assistant editor for a wedding video company, we advertised about how such a big event is hard to process and really remember. How easy it is to miss so many details about that special day because there is so much going on. While that may be good ad copy for a videography service, its not true because of the number of things going on. Its true because of the emotions!

David and I were married on Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at the Toledo municipal courthouse by a judge. The judge asked us to hold hands and look at each other. Thats when my clarity stopped. I can remember direct quotes from things that happened 20 years ago, but I dont remember anything the judge said.

David looked down at me and smiled. He held my hands tight. Emotions washed over me. I felt a flutter in my stomach like the first time I looked into those strong, warm, blue eyes. I thought to myself, This is real. What I never thought would happen in my life, what I never thought I needed in my life, its happening and its more perfect than I ever imagined it could be.

I think the judge said something like David will you...blah, blah, blah and he said I will. There must have been poignant words to David in there because at times he held my hands tighter and his smile was broader, warmer. Then he asked me Davonna will you... I choked back happy tears and said I will. Im sure they were standard wedding vows, but somehow it didnt matter. I would have said I will to anything to become Davids wife.

Then it was done and we kissed. Just like the first time we kissed, the room just disappeared. But this time, when the room came back, David was my husband.
