Journaling:
By 5 am Wednesday we had a plan to evacuate ahead of Hurricane Matthew and were calling to reserve a room in Charlotte, NC and drop the rental car there. We spent time with Kate before leaving, then learned what it's like to evacuate: the four-hour drive took nine hours. Remember driving 1 mile in an hour only to learn I77 North was closed and we had to guess what other route would take us north. After Columbia, SC we were able to get on I77 and run at 70 mph.

We heard about that road mess on the radio! So you were in it--ugh! Last year it took us over 14 hours to make what should have been a 6-hour house-to-airport-to-destination trip to North Carolina in early October. You sure got a terrific spread out of it though!
