Process Notes: Using artsy paper 1 I placed and duplicated the photo of the clothesline and moved them into place, blending to Multiply to blow out the dull white sky. Using a mask, I masked away parts I didnt want with a soft round brush at a lower opacity.

After placing the Blossom mask and photo of the woman hanging the wash, I clipped the photo down. I clipped the Easter Chicks pattern paper 1 over the photo and blended to Linear Burn and 88% opacity. Pulling in Blossom transfer 3 over the photo, blended it with Overlay and 61% opacity. I duplicated the transfer and placed it in the bottom right of the layout leaving it on Normal and 61% opacity. Placing a brush from Blossom to frame the photo, I clipped Blossom solid paper 3 leaving the brush on Normal and 100% opacity. Then I added brush 5 from the palette and clipped solid paper 2 from Easter Chicks. I beveled and embossed the brush to bring out the lacy look of the brush.

I brought in the bokeh, leaving it on Normal but blurring it and turned down the opacity 32%. Over the bokeh I placed the FotoGlow, blended to Lighter Color with 100% opacity.

Placing transfer 2 at the left edge of the page and under the photo layers, leaving it at Normal and 100% opacity. I also added FotoTransfer No. 1 under the photo and blending it to Overlay at 100% opacity. I positioned the tape texture over the transfer to give the impression of cloth.

From there I added the journaling, notebook lines and title using the acrylic alpha and positioning Monday under it.

Adding the button and choosing threads that looked like they were also waving in the wind, and the line overlay, I called it done.

The Journaling reads: I remember when I was little how proud my Mother was of her wringer washer. She had the Cadillac of wringer washers. She hung on to it long after modern day washer and dryers came into being, believing those would never get the wash clean. She was probably right, I certainly dont believe my wash comes out as bright as hers. Clothes lines were the norm in every yard. What I also remember is how fresh everything I wore smelled, and how fresh my sheets on my bed smelled. Took it for granted. Now we try to get that freshness from a dryer sheet, but its not the same. There was one memorable winter when I remember my Mother bringing in the laundry stiff as a board, frozen. She hung it up in the kitchen to thaw out. I was very amused by it, she was not. It meant another day to get the laundry done. And God forbid it should rain that day. Monday was laundry day, which doesnt count the day she ironed or replaced buttons that broke going through the wringers to squeeze out the water from the clothes. Not always, but sometimes. Im so glad we dont have to do that now, but I do miss the freshness.

Love your journaling. I remember the wringer and how Monday was wash day for us, too. Love your colors. So perfect for the 1950s and 60s. Love your repetition of the clotheslines in the background. And the clouds.

Great page! Love the journalling. I can remember the clothes line strung across the backyard too! And the clean fresh smell. That distinctive scent of soap and fresh air. I still hang my clothes up outside but use the modern rotary version.

My grandma had a wringer washer ... we were only allowed to watch ... seems like the ringers and little girls arms had something in common. You are right about one thing ... those amazing sheets! Great memory

Same memories...AND the warning to not touch the wringer or my fingers would get squished. Gorgeous colors and fabulous blending.

Ha Ha Monday must have been wash day all over the world. Great memories. My mum had the old wringer model and I remember the day I got my hand caught in it, but it had a quick release lever in case of children (like me) doing the same thing or putting too many items through at once.

love everything about this...the colors, the picture, the story. I have never been able to achieve the freshness of my mother's laundry, except several years ago when I was staying with her and used her clothes line :) Clotheslines have special memories for me also :)
