Sue Carol (1906-1982) Sue Carol was born Evelyn Lederer in Chicago, in 1906. One of the WAMPAS Baby Stars (in 1928 alongside Lina Basquette and Lupe Velez), she performed in motion pictures from 1927 until 1937 (Wampas = Western Associated Motion Picture Advertisers). Her films were made in association with producer Cecil B. Demille and MGM. After retiring from acting in the late 1930s, Carol established her own talent agency, the Sue Carol Agency; one of her clients was Alan Ladd to whom she was married in 1942. They had a son and a daughter, and she was his manager until his death by an overdose of drugs and alcohol in 1964. Carol died in 1982 in Los Angeles, from a heart attack and is interred next to Alan Ladd.
