National Park Service plow operators normally begin clearing the snow in the middle of April. Crews from the west side of the park and crews from the east side of the park move along the road and eventually meet at the Alpine Visitor Center. The visitor center is the highest in the National Park Service, sitting at 11,796 feet above sea level. Spring storms often impact plowing activities. On May 18 and May 19 of this year, a major snowstorm occurred on the east side of the park, dropping more than 3 feet of snow in lower elevations of the park. Plow operators faced 8 to 14 feet of snow at higher elevations, hampering efforts to open Trail Ridge Road by Memorial Day weekend.

Journaling:
After Browns Park, we still needed a vacation, and three days in Estes Park sounded about right. We headed up on Monday morning and were excited to see what Trail Ridge Road was like right after opening. Near the summit, some walls were 20 feet or higher.

Trail Ridge Road runs through Rocky Mountain National Park, which is 30 miles from us. Altitude issues make it necessary to stay up there instead of just making a day trip.
Fabulous story!! We lived in Greeley for several years....I enjoyed reading about the snow removal in Estes. We had an irrigation ditch right next to our house in Greeley that our neighbor used for watering his large gardens, and he would tell me about the melting snow coming down from the mountains which filled the ditch, when opened. Colorado is a beautiful state...LOVE your page spread!

Beautiful spread... love the journaling and the distinct texture. It is over 90 degrees here today.... our snow is long gone...your story reminds me of the diverse climate of other states.

i'm a big fan of your travel pages and this page is one of many reasons:
the white space, the brilliant accents of red, the texture to document the story. love, how carfully and reflected you use every brush, stitch, transfer, picture, frame......
thank you for participating me/us visually on your journies. every page of you is a gift for me and so inspiring.

We lived in Greeley one summer, years ago! I remember seeing snow in July. Beautiful page and love the red pops and texture!

Wow! I always learn something from your spreads. Your blend of factual and visual is just so compelling. And each spread is so very different from the previous, as the landscape dictates. Simply awesome work.

You have such amazing adventures! I love the whiteness resembling snow and those pops of lovely red!
