The Peach-Stealer

Many cultures have stories about a magic elixir or a fruit which can reverse aging and grant eternal life to anyone who partakes. In Chinese mythology peento peaches were considered the peach of immortality and Xi Wang Mu, the Queen Mother of the West in ancient Chinese mythology, lived far to the west (from ancient Chinese capitals in the east), high in the mountains, in a hidden garden where she grew peaches that gave eternal life. It was said that Dongfang Shuo, who was part of Emperor Wu's retinue of officials, stole one of these peaches so he could be immortal.
There's a 16th century Ming dynasty silk tapestry of Dongfang stealing the peach that hangs in The Met.

I channelled Marleen after seeing her latest entry to the gallery. Many thanks for the inspiration, Marleen!

Thanks for looking!
Your story is awesome and so too your intense colors, such a "juicy" contrast with your (envious) white space. Lush

The affect and colors are so ripe with color, if you know what I mean. Wonderful channeling of Marleen. I so admire people who can pull of white space. Really a gorgeous page and wonderful story.
