The Koala Clan

Great products on Sale in the Oscraps Store Wednesday 15th

The colours this week in the sales products are perfect for my piece - The Koala Clan.

As you would all be aware Australia has been in the grips of a devastating catastrophic change to our landscape.

Not only the loss of lives, property and livestock
but also a massive massive number of our beautiful wildlife has been decemated.

Sometimes I think we take them for granted until something like this happens.

I absolutely adore Koala's and the funniest encounter I had with them was I was housesitting in our Adelaide
Hills one year and had been at another friends house on the other side of the freeway and cut back to the house via backroads.

I was driving slow as wasn't 100 percent sure
of the way, and saw something on the road ahead.

I turned up my high beams and there right in front were three Koala's and I am sure it was Papa Bear, Mumma Bear and Baby Bear - all across the road in single file just ambling down the road.

They weren't going to move for anyone till they got where they were going about 4 or 5 trees away from where I had spotted them.

So all I could do is sit and wait till they got where they were going. It made my night.

Now to think that we have lost so many of these creatures it breaks my heart. It is like I have gone into mourning for our country and whilst I have not been directly affected the grief I feel is so real.

So I decided to create some pieces to honour these lost souls.

I started with a paper from APP Thrive - very apt in this situation as I hope they can.

I made this my background paper and then used a brush from the palette to make a clipping mask and place it at the top right over the coloured stains in the paper.

I clipped my image of my little furrie friend to it via Layer - Create - Clipping Mask (ALT+CTRL+G).

I then selected another image I had and in deference to the massive loss of the koalas and so many injured, I used the same brush to create the clipping mask as above but the desaturated the image - (Image - Adjustment - Desaturate - Shift+CTRL+U).

To embelish I added one of the stamps from AASPN_DecorStamps1 and clipped part of another image of gum leaves to it as above to show the colour and the leaves that the Koala's eat.

Finally I added the words from AAPSN_LifeWordART9. I used this word in particular as we all need to come together here to "Embrace the Chaos" and rebuild our nation and try to replenish our wildlife.

I just wanted to add a big thank you to all the people and countries out there who have helped us - with money or goods or sending your precious people to help fight our fires. - So many to mention and don't want to leave any country out so you know who you are.

The poor koalas, they have to be one of the cutest animals in the world, so sad about the fires. Lovely tribute!
