AnnaLift 7/27/12 - 8/2/12
I've been thinking a lot about traveling lately, about planting myself on a beach somewhere, feet up, umbrella in my drink, watching the waves roll in. As it happens, I am going on vacation next week--yay!!--but I'm not going to a beach; I'm going to Chicago! Yeah, okay, there's a story there, but another time...The latest AnnaLift and the juxtaposition of thoughts in my head about gritty urban life and serene beach scenes led to this page.
The beach photo is one I took of Manzanillo, a small beach located at the southern-most end of Costa Rica on the Pacific side. To get there you drive on a paved, narrow, two-lane road when all of a sudden the road just...ends. That's it. No more road, not even beyond the beach. Manzanillo feels like it's at the end of the world. My kind of beach, my kind of beach town!
The page title, "The Door into Summer" is taken from a Robert Heinlein novel of the same name. (Robert Heinlein was a Grand Master science fiction author.) The title refers to a cat who simply refused to go outside if there was snow on the ground, instead waiting for his human to open the
right door, the door into summer.
