Sweet Anna

I have a collection of photographs from the mid 1800s to early 1900s. The photos which have names I do research on as a way to honor their lives. This photo of Anna came with a good many family photos which I have researched a bit. I was also lucky enough to contact a relative, and he told me a bit more about this woman. I suppose back then many people never learned to swim, and it is so sad that she and her new husband died so young, because they could not swim. It is also sad that their young daughter never knew her parents, and despite my trying to research the daughter, neither myself, nor her relative have found anything on this child beyond 1930, as she was raised by her fathers family, no Annas family. My hopes is that the child had a long and happy life. I did find out from her relative that Annas sister lived a long life, and I learned a bit more about her.

Journaling reads: Born in 1872 in New York City, Anna Williams Richards was the eldest of 3 children. Born into privilege and wealth, she had a comfortable life, enjoying such things as travel to Europe as a young girl. She married at 23, and soon after, she and her husband had a baby girl. Vacationing in the Adirondacks, tragedy struck when the boat she was in overturned, her husband tried to save her, but both drowned, leaving their baby girl an orphan. I think about this young girl at times when I am having a difficult time with life, and it reminds me of just how quickly things in life can change, and just how precious life is. Dear Anna lost her life at age 25, but she lives on within me, never to be forgotten.

The Process: I began with a cardstock from AP Memorable. I added a few transfers from AT Memorable, and then blended on the photo. I multiplied the photo, rescaled it, and repositioned it two more time, changing its opacity. I added a variety of other tranfers, the elements, and threadz. I added the name, and journaling, edging it with the bracket. I then began playing around with some of the layers of the Artsy Tranfer, modifying some of the colors and blend modes, and moving some around to better work with the layout.
